Description

The Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training is seeking a talented and versatile creative professional to serve as its next Graphic Design Coordinator.

This position plays a central role in how DOCJT communicates with Kentucky’s law enforcement community, government leaders, agency partners and the public. As a member of the Public Information Section, the Graphic Design Coordinator serves as the agency’s visual brand steward and helps ensure that DOCJT’s communications are professional, consistent, accessible and engaging.

This is a hands-on, multidisciplinary position for someone who enjoys working across print, digital, web and multimedia platforms. The successful candidate will move between designing major agency publications, managing websites, creating social media graphics, coordinating with printers and vendors, and supporting livestreamed agency events.

Some travel may be required. DOCJT has campuses in both Richmond and Madisonville, KY.

The Graphic Design Coordinator will:

• Coordinates and performs graphic design for agency print, digital and web-based products.
• Develops and maintains agency visual identity, branding standards and official logos.
• Designs professional materials including annual reports, surveys, brochures, publications, newsletters, event materials, social media graphics.
• Develops concepts, proofs and mockups to meet agency standards.
• Creates, edits, updates and maintains the DOCJT and KYPCIS websites, including page layout, visual presentation, content organization and routine website updates.
• Utilizes content management systems and working knowledge of HTML and CSS to support effective online presentation.
• Researches and recommends appropriate web tools, platforms and practices.
• Develops, plans and organizes digital content for distribution through agency websites and email communication platforms.
• Produces the monthly Dispatches newsletter and assists with other email communications distributed to DOCJT clients using mass email services such as Granicus GovDelivery and, or, MailChimp.
• Prepares and formats visual content.
• Coordinates with the Public Information Section supervisor, executive staff, Cabinet Public Information Office and other project stakeholders to develop professional, well-designed visual products supporting agency informational needs, including legislative, budgetary and executive-level communications.
• Produces clear, accurate and professional final products.
• Provides graphic design and multimedia support for agency events and affiliated initiatives, including the Kentucky Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation.
• Supports professional livestreaming of graduations, ceremonies and other agency events through the operation and coordination of production equipment.
• Researches and maintains awareness of software.
• Communicates and coordinates with commercial printers, vendors and other service providers to identify agency graphic design and production needs.
• Prepares materials for prepress and final output, reviews proofs and specifications, and works with vendors to ensure accurate, high-quality reproduction of outsourced printed and produced materials.
• Performs other duties as required.

Preferred Skills

• Strong graphic design and visual communication skills, with proficiency in industry-standard design software, including Adobe Creative Suite and Creative Cloud
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to contribute creative concepts and ideas to campaigns and initiatives
• Strong project, time-management and organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines independently
• Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment and work with leadership, clients, project stakeholders and vendors
• Experience with content management systems, working knowledge of HTML and CSS, and familiarity with digital communication platforms
• Ability to stay current with and evaluate emerging graphic design, web, multimedia and production technologies

• Maintain a valid driver’s license
• Frequently communicate in person or by other means of technology
• Spend a major portion of time using a computer
• Travel required (state vehicle provided)

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in graphic design, commercial art, studio art or a closely-related field.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Two years of experience in graphic design.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in one of the above areas will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Working Conditions

Work typically involves some contact with the public, agency personnel and printing company representatives.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
