3rd shift

Primary Function:

Operate the Granulator to chop rubber products for use in the adhesive’s facility. Operation consists of loading rubber onto the belt for granulation, loading mica dust into the dust hopper, and weighing and remove tubs of granulated stock. Machine operation includes setting controls for required machine operation and monitoring dust coverage. Incumbent is involved in the granulation of the product and is responsible for the safety, productivity, quality, and cleanliness of the operation. The operator will also assist and/or fill-in at the Henschel Mixer and the Fast & Dash as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities (tasks include but are not limited to):

Job tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Operate the Granulator and auxiliary equipment
  • Package finished product in appropriate container to specified weight using the platform scale
  • Loading mica dust into the hopper and monitoring the operation of that equipment
  • Loading granulated stock into tubs per specified weight
  • Set up equipment and granulate product following processing specifications
  • Complete production paperwork and SQDC board
  • Obtain raw materials using forklift
  • Identify product by stock formulation
  • Maintain proper housekeeping
  • Clean granulator when changeover is necessary
  • Load and unload chopped stock trailer using a forklift
  • Use stretch wrapper for packaging when specifications require
  • Operate SFIS computer to print tickets
  • Work with production scheduler to granulate material as it is needed
  • Ability to work independently

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Essential Full Performance Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of the processing specifications for all products
  • Knowledge of the operation of the Granulator controls, dust hopper, weigh scales and forklift.
  • An understanding of rubber processing technology, statistical process control and all safety systems is required.

Essential Full Performance Skills:

  • Reading - processing specifications, product tags and scales
  • Math - keep counts and scale weights
  • Writing – complete work orders, production paperwork, and SQDC board
  • Communications – participate in team problem solving groups and respond to work instruction
  • Forklift operation

Equipment/Data:

Equipment Operated: Granulator, dust hopper, forklift, etc.

Data Used: processing specifications and deviations, logbook, daily schedule, quality information, productivity information, SDS’s, etc.

Materials Used: knifes and other tools as needed

Interactions with Others: All as needed

Education & Experience Requirements:

Education: High school diploma or GED preferred

Experience: holding a chair for this position as defined in the Seniority System Handbook

Work Environment/Time Worked:

Work Environment: Activities occur inside a manufacturing facility. Job conditions include, but are not limited to, exposure to the following:

  • Potential for temperatures exceeding 100°F during the summer
  • Airborne raw material dust
  • Minimal exposure to fumes from solvents
  • Moving mechanical parts including belts, blades, etc.
  • Pinch points on moving mechanical parts
  • Heavy equipment operation includes use of a forklift
  • Sharp edges on utility knives

  • Typically, 40 hours per week with overtime required as production ticket dictates.
  • Days of Week Worked: Typically, Monday through Friday with Saturday and/or Sunday work required as production ticket dictates.

Physical Requirements:

Physical requirements include, but are not limited to:

  • Climbing on and off the forklift
  • Stooping/bending to place rubber stock onto the belt and lifting mica dust bags
  • Reaching to feed rubber stock onto the belt
  • Standing during most of the shift to complete tasks
  • Walking to retrieve materials and from one area of the equipment to another
  • Pulling and/or pushing to maneuver tubs
  • Lifting rubber stock off the skid, and dumping mica dust bags
  • Using fingers to operate buttons
  • Talking, hearing, sight required to complete job tasks
  • Sitting to operate forklift
  • Grasping bags, rubber stocks, and tubs

Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned
