A leading medical institution is seeking a Grants Specialistto manage complex pre-award research administration activities by developing grant proposals and budgets, coordinating NIH and other sponsor submissions, ensuring regulatory compliance, serving as the primary institutional representative for faculty and sponsors, and supporting the full lifecycle of sponsored research awards.

Grants Specialist Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage complex pre-award grant proposal development by preparing budgets, interpreting sponsor requirements, coordinating proposal submissions, ensuring institutional and sponsor compliance, and serving as the primary institutional representative for faculty throughout the proposal process.
  • Develop, review, negotiate, administer, and monitor grants, contracts, subawards, and sponsored research transactions while maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with federal, state, private sponsor, and institutional regulations.
  • Analyze research funding opportunities, forecast and manage research portfolios, provide strategic guidance on grant administration, support award management and closeout activities, and prepare financial and administrative reports.
  • Partner with faculty, departmental staff, sponsors, and internal research administration teams to coordinate complex multi-investigator proposals, multiple subawards, institutional approvals, delegated signature processes, and successful award administration throughout the grant lifecycle.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in research administration, mentor less experienced staff, resolve complex regulatory and administrative issues, and promote effective, compliant, and collaborative sponsored research processes.

Grants Specialist Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in pre-award research administration, budget development, and proposal submission, including National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant applications.
  • Strong knowledge of grants and contracts administration, sponsored research regulations, proposal development, financial management, compliance requirements, and institutional review processes.
  • Experience managing complex grant proposals involving multiple investigators, task budgets, option years, and multiple subawards.
  • Ability to independently analyze complex sponsor requirements, develop compliant proposals, negotiate awards, and manage research administration activities throughout the award lifecycle.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, sponsors, and cross-functional research administration teams.
  • Experience mentoring less experienced staff and supporting continuous process improvement is preferred.

Shift:

  • Hybrid: 2 days per week.
  • 08:00 am to 5:00 pm.
