The purpose of this position is to help fulfill the mission of the YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg by maximizing grant support for the organization and building relationships between the Y and current and potential supporters. Reporting to the Executive Director, Fund Development, this position is responsible for leading, expanding and executing the YMCA-YWCA’s extensive grants program, including all solicitation phases, cultivation, stewardship, and where necessary grant communications and impact reports. The Grants and Reporting Specialist is also responsible for managing relationships with donors and external partners, as well as supporting leadership in government relations to facilitate ongoing support for vital community programs and capital initiatives, while furthering the organization’s data strategy to support philanthropic success.

HOW you’ll create Moments that Matter:

  • Annually, facilitate the review and prioritization process to support the Internal Grant Cycle and update the annual grant priority list aligned with organizational strategic objectives.
  • Proactively identify and pursue grant opportunities that align with approved funding priorities.
  • Plan, coordinate, write and develop proposals/grant submissions for government and foundation funding programs.
  • Lead the preparation and submission of grant applications in collaboration with project leads and internal stakeholders.
  • Monitor application outcomes and maintain accurate records of submissions, decisions, and funding status to inform planning and reporting.
  • Work collaboratively with various Y departments to identify funding needs and support in the development and submission of internal grant request forms, providing guidance, tools, and feedback to strengthen applications.
  • Research and provide data analytics to funders to demonstrate impact of programming.
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with relevant organizations and government entities.
  • Represent YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg and its interests in meetings and workshops with granting agencies, including leading response writing for requests for information.
  • Communicate status updates to stakeholders, both internal and external.
  • Support YMCA-YWCA leadership in government relations initiatives led by senior leadership, providing coordination, research, and administrative support to advance organizational priorities.
  • Maintain database requirements for existing and potential donors and supporting agencies.
  • Pursue opportunities to grow the organization’s endowment.
  • Develop stewardship strategies and implement processes and tactics for timely and appropriate correspondence and acknowledgement.
  • Steward grant funding relationships by ensuring timely reporting, compliance with funding requirements, and ongoing engagement with funders.
  • Develop detailed background research for identified donor prospects to aid in building stakeholder relationships.
  • Coordinate naming agreements and corresponding recognition and stewardship requirements.

You’ll bring:

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field (equivalent work experience will also be considered) with an emphasis on writing, reporting and political acumen.
  • Minimum 2 years of grant writing experience.
  • Experience with prospect research and building donor profiles.
  • Experience in managing relationships with government and granting agencies.
  • Exceptional written and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Resourceful and team player capable of collaborating with multiple cross-functional teams.
  • A detail-oriented, initiative-driven individual who is eager to drive organizational success by maximizing grant support.
  • Experience managing proposal writing processes to secure government funding.
  • Experience in major gift prospect identification, cultivation and stewardship practices.
  • As part of the hiring process and conditions of employment, candidates must successfully complete and provide satisfactory results for three professional reference checks, a Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, Child and Adult Abuse Registry Checks, and all employer-required onboarding and mandatory training.
