Job Description

New Graduate Veterinary Surgeon (DVM) (Northern California)

Your First Year. Done Right.

Starting your career as a veterinarian is a big moment.
It should feel exciting—not overwhelming.

At VetnCare, we’ve built a 12-month New Associate Program that gives you the support, mentorship, and real clinical experience you need to grow into a confident, capable veterinarian—at your own pace.

You won’t be thrown in.
You won’t be left alone.
You will be supported—every step of the way.

What Makes This Different?

This isn’t just another new graduate role.

It’s a structured, supported first year in practice, designed to help you:

  • Build confidence in real clinical settings
  • Develop strong medical and surgical skills
  • Learn from experienced mentors who genuinely invest in you
  • Transition into independent practice without pressure

What You’ll Experience

From day one, you’ll be part of a real veterinary team—learning, contributing, and growing.

Over 12 months, you’ll:

  • Work with a diverse caseload across medical, surgical, and urgent care
  • Gradually increase your responsibility at a pace that suits you
  • Gain hands-on experience in diagnostics, treatment planning, and procedures
  • Build confidence in client communication and clinical decision-making

No two days are the same—and that’s exactly the point.

You’ll Never Do It Alone

Your Clinical Director will be your mentor, coach, and support system.

You’ll have:

  • Regular 1:1 check-ins and case discussions
  • Real-time clinical guidance when you need it
  • A structured development plan tailored to you
  • A safe space to ask questions and learn

Plus, you’ll be part of a wider support network including:

  • Clinical leaders
  • Fellow new graduates
  • Experienced veterinary teams

What You’ll Get

Clinical & Professional Development

  • Monthly RACE-approved clinical training
  • Professional development workshops
  • Annual Advanced Practice Seminar (ELEVATE)
  • Continuing education allowance

Best-in-Class Resources

  • VIN membership
  • Plumb’s Veterinary Drugs
  • CVMA access

A Program That Adapts to You

  • Gradual increase in caseload and complexity
  • Support tailored to your confidence and ability
  • Exposure to multiple hospitals and teams

Why VetnCare?

Because your first year matters.

We offer:

  • A structured, phased program that builds confidence
  • Real mentorship (not just a name on paper)
  • Exposure to a wide variety of cases
  • A collaborative, supportive culture
  • Clear career pathways into leadership or partnership
  • A genuine focus on wellbeing and sustainable careers

What We Look For

  • Passion for patient care
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A positive, proactive mindset
  • A desire to keep learning and improving
  • A commitment to high-quality veterinary medicine

Our Promise to You

Your first year shouldn’t feel like survival.

At VetnCare, we promise:

  • You’ll be supported from day one
  • You’ll have time to learn and grow
  • You’ll never be expected to “just figure it out”
  • You’ll build real confidence—not just get through the year

Ready to Start Your Career the Right Way?

If you’re looking for a program that invests in you—not just employs you—we’d love to hear from you.

About VetnCare

VetnCare was founded in 2012 with a simple yet powerful vision, to create a community of veterinary hospitals that deliver next-level care, next-door. What started as a passion for helping pets has grown into a thriving community of 13 veterinary hospitals across Northern California.

We believe that exceptional pet care starts with exceptional people. That’s why we invest in our teams, providing the professional mentorship, training, and resources they need to grow and thrive. Behind the scenes, our centralized support team—including operations, HR, finance, IT, and marketing —ensures that our hospitals run smoothly, allowing our clinical teams to focus on what they do best: provide exceptional veterinary care.

When you join VetnCare - whether as a team member or a pet parent - you become part of a community that comes together with a shared purpose: to elevate veterinary care for pets and the people who care for them.
