Pay Rate: $15.00

Purpose of Job: The Outdoor Adventure Graduate Student Manager (OAGSE) will assist the Outdoor Adventure Professional Staff (OA) with operations of a comprehensive Campus Recreation Outdoor Recreation Program. The OAGSE will be responsible for the daily operations of the Rock, Marina and/or the Challenge Course, including hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating, and supervising student workers. Additional responsibilities include planning, developing, implementing, and supervising OA trips, clinics, and events. Evening and weekend hours will be required. Campus Recreation can only assist with the stipend dollars and experience. Tuition will need to be paid for arranged by student with the department in which they will seek their degree.

Primary Job Duties:

Staffing and Supervision (40%)

Graduate students will conduct themselves in a professional and courteous manner representing the values of Baylor University

Recruit, hire, train, supervise and evaluate OA Student Staff members

Prepare work schedules for OA staff

Assign and oversee OA staff job responsibilities

Supervise all scheduling conflicts

Plan and coordinate staff meetings

Work in conjunction with department liaison to ensure all student workers have accurate and complete paperwork as per university policy

Programming, Safety, and Equipment (30%)

Conduct daily, monthly and annual maintenance operations and inspections

Assist with developing OA policies, procedures, and staff manual(s)

Enforce policy and procedures for outdoor adventure programs and facilities

Provide direction for student workers for special projects and programs for OA

Prepare program brochures/flyers and assist with marketing and promoting the use of outdoor adventure facilities and programs

Responsible for establishing equipment inventory lists, maintaining equipment including repairs and replacement requests, etc.

Responsible for communicating all changes in hours, closures due to holidays and other facility logistics to patrons

Provide quality customer service to student workers, students, patrons and all staff

Perform other tasks as assigned by Campus Recreation Professional Staff Members – OA

ROCK Climbing Wall Specifics: (10%)

Organize and supervise ROCK route setting

Plan, coordinate, and/or lead ROCK events, classes and programs

Plan, organize, and direct Chalk Up Bouldering Competition and Bear Climb CCS Competition

Marina Boating Facility Specifics: (10%)

Organize and supervise stand alone Marina Facility

Plan, coordinate, and/or lead Marina events, classes and programs

Secondary job Functions: (10%)

Assist with scheduled groups at Eastland Lakes Challenge Course as a facilitator

Assist with outdoor adventure trip preparation and function as a trip leader

Assist with Student Life Center facility duties

Coordinate the use and readiness of outdoor adventure facilities and equipment for Baylor camps, academic classes and other organizations

Qualifications:

Required

Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Physical Education or related field

or

Have a high degree of experience in Outdoor Adventure and Recreation Programming

Student must be accepted and enrolled in graduate school hours each long semester

Approx. 20 hours per week at $15/hr.

Tuition, Books, Student Fees, and Parking are not covered expenses

Must meet requirements of Baylor University Vehicle Driver Policy

Position subject to Criminal Background Check

Hold First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification or acquire such certification within 30 days of hire.

Preferred

Ability to work with diverse populations, faculty, staff and students

Evidence of effective written and interpersonal communication skills

Strong leadership, ethic, and organization skills

Previous experience as a Challenge Course/Ropes Course Supervisor & Trainer

Previous experience as a Climbing Gym Supervisor and or Floor Staff
