Job Description

Start Date: 12/16/2026

End Date: 3/15/2027

DEADLINE TO APPLY IS 9 PM Pacific Time, Wednesday, October 21, 2026.

The University of Washington Information School is seeking an MLIS or MA-Museology student to provide research support for “An Interdisciplinary Research and Action Roadmap for Libraries, Archives, and Museums,” a project of CALMA, the Center for Advances in Libraries, Museums, and Archives. Libraries, archives, and museums face many of the same challenges, but the three fields rarely approach them together. This project brings researchers, educators, and professionals from each sector together to identify shared research priorities and build a roadmap for cross-sector collaboration.

The Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) will join the project team in the beginning stages of this project during Winter Quarter 2027. The project team is holding focus groups with field participants to surface the highest priority issues and questions facing the three fields. The GRA will help organize and code the focus group data and contribute to interpreting and summarizing what participants shared. That synthesis will shape the research agenda that guides the rest of the project.

The GRA will perform some or all of the responsibilities listed below for an average of 20 hours per week during Winter Quarter 2027.

  • Participate in research team meetings, activities, and communication channels
  • Organize and code qualitative research data from focus groups
  • Contribute to the interpretation of findings
  • Contribute to the summarization of findings
  • Other research-related duties as needed

Compensation:

The monthly pay rate for an RA paid on Schedule 1 is $3,612. TA/RA/SA/Predoctoral instructors and their dependents may be eligible to receive UW-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage through the Graduate Appointee Insurance Program (GAIP); may be eligible for one personal holiday and up to 10 paid holidays; and may be awarded up to 28 hours of sick time off (prorated based on FTE). Questions regarding pay should be directed to iSchool Human Resources at ihrhelp@uw.edu.

Note: This job classification is governed by a negotiated labor contract and is subject to union shop provisions.
