Peabody Graduate Program 2027 – Geology & Geotechnical Engineering

We are seeking graduates completing their degrees in 2027, as well as those who have graduated within the past two years. Our two-year program places you on our mine sites, working with technical teams to build practical skills and contribute to leading mining practices. Throughout the program, you’ll gain exposure to both opencut and underground mining operations.

Participants are based at our QLD or NSW mine sites, working alongside full‑time engineers, environmental specialists, and operational leaders while receiving dedicated mentorship. One of our current participants shared the following insights:

• Wambo Complex JV, Processing Plant servicing Open-cut Mine (NSW): Close to the Hunter Valley, offering a mix of vineyards, country living and easy access to outdoor recreation
• Coppabella JV, Open-cut Mine (QLD): Queensland open‑cut operations surrounded by iconic landscapes.

About the Role

As a Graduate Geologist or Graduate Geotechnical Engineer in our two-year development program, you will step into a permanent role designed to build your technical capability, professional confidence, and onsite experience. You will gain hands-on exposure to geological and geotechnical practices that support safe, productive, and efficient mining operations across open-cut and underground environments.

Throughout the program, you will rotate across different sites and operational environments, giving you a broad and practical understanding of geology and geotechnical engineering within a large and diverse mining organisation. Working alongside experienced geologists, geotechnical engineers, mining engineers, and technical specialists, you will develop strong foundations in areas such as geological interpretation, ground control, slope stability, strata behaviour, data collection, and risk assessment. You will also work with industry‑leading tools and technologies, including geological and geotechnical modelling software, monitoring systems, and operational data platforms

In this role you will:

• Support day‑to‑day geological and geotechnical activities across mine sites, contributing to safe and effective mine design and operations.
• Assist with geological data collection, interpretation, and modelling, including logging, mapping, and sampling activities.
• Support geotechnical monitoring programs, ground control plans, and risk assessments for open‑cut and underground operations.
• Work closely with mining, planning, and operational teams to identify and manage geological and geotechnical risks and improvement opportunities.
• Use geological and geotechnical software and digital tools to analyse data and support technical decision making.
• Take part in structured rotations across different sites to build broad geological, geotechnical, and operational experience.
• Work on real operational, technical, and improvement projects alongside experienced geologists, geotechnical engineers, and site teams.

This two-year program is designed to build your capability step-by-step, combining practical site exposure, technical training, professional development, and ongoing mentorship — preparing you for a successful career as a professional Geologist or Geotechnical Engineer in the mining industry

To qualify for the Peabody Energy Graduate Program, you must:

• Have completed (or will complete by January 2027) a degree in Geology, Geoscience, Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering (with a geotechnical major), or a related discipline
• Enjoy collaborating with others and contributing to shared goals
• Communicate clearly and confidently, with a willingness to grow and take on feedback
• Bring curiosity, initiative, and a genuine enthusiasm to learn on‑site in one of Australia’s most essential industries
