Job Description

We are looking for Graduate - Data Engineering Specialist to join our AECOM's Graduate Program to be based in Abu Dhabi.

Digital Support for MEP Engineering Teams

  • Collaborate with MEP engineers to integrate digital and data-driven workflows into conventional engineering design processes.
  • Develop digital solutions supporting mechanical, electrical and public health engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Analyse and interpret datasets generated from BIM models, engineering calculations, simulations and building performance analysis.
  • Develop tools and workflows to improve the efficiency, consistency and quality of engineering design and documentation.
  • Support MEP design optimisation, value engineering and option analysis through data-driven approaches.
  • Generate reports, dashboards and visualisations to communicate engineering performance and project insights.
  • Develop and maintain engineering databases, templates and digital resources.

Data Management & Analysis

  • Collect, structure, clean and analyse MEP project data to identify trends, opportunities, risks and areas for improvement.
  • Develop data models and analytical workflows to support engineering decision-making.
  • Analyse data from BIM models, Revit, engineering calculations, simulation tools, building management systems and other project platforms.
  • Develop automated methods for extracting, processing and validating engineering data.
  • Identify opportunities to apply data analytics, predictive analytics and machine learning to MEP design, building performance and project delivery.
  • Establish robust data structures and workflows, ensuring data integrity, consistency and compliance with company standards.
  • Develop dashboards and visualisations using Power BI or similar platforms.

MEP Design Automation & Computational Engineering

  • Develop automation scripts and digital tools to streamline repetitive MEP engineering tasks.
  • Automate engineering calculations, data extraction, model checking, reporting and design workflows.
  • Develop solutions using Python, C#, Dynamo, Grasshopper, VBA, APIs or other appropriate programming environments.
  • Support computational design workflows for MEP systems.
  • Connect BIM models with engineering analysis, simulation and data analytics platforms.
  • Develop automated QA/QC processes to identify errors, inconsistencies and non-compliance within MEP models and engineering data.
  • Develop internal engineering tools, libraries and reusable digital workflows.
  • Work with engineers to translate technical requirements into practical digital solutions.

BIM & Digital Engineering

  • Work with BIM and digital engineering teams to improve the use of engineering information within BIM models.
  • Develop workflows for extracting and analysing information from platforms such as Revit and Autodesk Construction Cloud.
  • Support integration between BIM, engineering analysis and data platforms.
  • Develop and maintain digital engineering standards, templates and workflows.
  • Improve interoperability between engineering and project software platforms.
  • Support data-driven BIM and digital delivery strategies.

Building Performance & Engineering Analytics

  • Support analysis of building performance data, including energy consumption, thermal comfort, indoor environmental quality and HVAC system performance.
  • Analyse simulation outputs from tools such as IES VE, EnergyPlus or similar platforms.
  • Develop automated workflows for processing large volumes of simulation and engineering data.
  • Support data-driven approaches to HVAC system optimisation and building performance improvement.
  • Identify relationships between design parameters and building performance.
  • Explore predictive analytics and machine learning applications to building performance and operational data.

Technology Implementation & Innovation

  • Identify emerging technologies, software and methodologies that could improve MEP engineering and project delivery.
  • Develop proof-of-concept solutions and demonstrate their value to engineering teams.
  • Provide technical support and training on digital tools, automation and data workflows.
  • Work with other disciplines to identify opportunities for cross-disciplinary digital integration.
  • Support the adoption of AI, machine learning, computational design and automation within the MEP engineering environment.
  • Contribute to the development of a digital and innovation culture within the Building Services team.

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in a relevant field such as Data Science / Data Analytics Computer Science / Software Engineering Digital or Computational Engineering Mechanical / Electrical Engineering Building Services / MEP Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Strong programming skills, particularly in Python and C#, with experience in data manipulation, automation and analytical workflows.
  • Experience with SQL, Power BI and data visualisation tools.
  • Experience with BIM and engineering platforms such as Revit, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Navisworks, IES VE, EnergyPlus, Grasshopper, Rhino and Dynamo would be advantageous.
  • Experience developing automation tools using Python, Dynamo, Grasshopper, VBA, APIs or similar programming environments.
  • Understanding of BIM data structures, APIs and interoperability between engineering software platforms.
