Other Conditions: Position is expected to begin approximately early September 2026 or as mutually acceptable. Renewal of appointment is dependent on performance, program needs and/or availability of funds.

Duties and Responsibilities

Research will involve sorting subsamples from sediment collected from offshore biomonitoring stations for micromollusk identification and enumeration. Sediments will be processed under a microscope and carefully scrutinized; micromollusk shells will be removed and placed in vials for identification and comparison with a time series of samples from each collection site, and other research-related duties as needed. Estimated workload: 20 hours per week

Minimum Qualifications

B.S. degree in biology; Full-time PhD student in the Marine Biology Graduate program within the School of Life Sciences at UHM. Must have basic knowledge of marine biology, natural history, and invertebrates; scientific diving certified; coral reef out planting experience; ability to work independently.

Desirable Qualifications

Experience working with microscopes, invertebrate identification and mollusk samples; experience with ecological surveying; Python, Matlab and DeepLabCut experience.
