Job Description

Branch Civil is searching for a GPS Technician to join our well-established, growing company. The GPS Technician provides surveying service to company supervision and crafts to ensure construction work complies with design drawings.

Essential Functions:

  • Physically measures or accurately computes quantities of work complete and records those quantities in a daily record.

  • Is thoroughly familiar with the contract requirements for surveying on project.

  • Organize and coordinate the survey work on the project.

  • Responsible for layout, vertical and horizontal control work for all self-performed work using all survey equipment.

  • Must be proficient with GPS Equipment with some knowledge of robotic instruments.

  • Checks in place work against drawings and specifications to assure overall accuracy as needed.

  • Assist in maintaining as-built drawings.

  • Maintain all survey field notes on the project to include location of all control points and benchmarks used in the layout of the project.

  • Perform minor surveying, replacement of disturbed or missing survey stakes and normal construction layout and grade checking to include line and grade of pipe and drainage structures.

  • Prepare all working drawings required for minor construction components.

  • Maintain and troubleshoot GPS rover/data collector equipment as well as heavy equipment.

  • Maintain and troubleshoot Robotic Equipment

  • Assist in setting up fine-grade equipment.

  • Book completed fine-grade surface for owner verification.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalency

  • 0-5 years construction survey experience preferred.

  • Some knowledge of Trimble and/or Topcon GPS equipment preferred

  • Some knowledge of engineering and survey practices.

  • Some knowledge in Microsoft Word & Excel is preferred.

  • Some knowledge of Bluebeam preferred but not required

Compensation Data

Salary Min: $46,623.50

Salary Max: $79,950

Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors.

Travel

The position requires intermittent travel and overnight lodging.

Work Environment
This position operates in an office environment with frequent project site visits. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones and photocopiers/scanners.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use their hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk, and hear. The employee will sometimes need to walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste, and smell. The employee must be able to lift or move up to 50lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, midrange vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position which will typically involve 40 hours a week.
