Position Summary

The GPS Machine Control General Foreman will oversee GPS-equipped pile drivers and the crew responsible for supporting pile installation and machine-control operations on a utility-scale solar construction site. This position requires hands-on experience working with GPS machine-control systems, Trimble technology, and pile-driving equipment, with additional support for GPS-equipped earthmoving equipment as needed.

The General Foreman will be responsible for ensuring GPS-equipped machines are properly set up, operating accurately, and supporting pile installation to approved locations, orientations, and specified elevations or reveals. Primary responsibilities include pile-driver GPS setup, calibration, troubleshooting, and operator support. This is a field-focused position that requires strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to perform minor repairs or replace GPS components when needed.

Key Responsibilities: Lead and oversee a crew supporting GPS-equipped pile drivers and pile installation operations, with earthmoving support as needed.

Set up, operate, and troubleshoot Trimble Groundworks and related GPS systems used on pile-driving equipment.

Verify that each pile driver has the current approved pile plan, correct project and block, site calibration, and required installation information before production begins.

Confirm pile IDs, design coordinates, pile types and sizes, and pile orientations match the approved plans and machine settings.

Perform and document machine setup and calibration checks, including antenna offsets, mast alignment, and applicable positioning and tilt sensors, following manufacturer procedures.

Verify pile-driver positioning against established survey control and known check points before production, after relocation or repairs, and when accuracy concerns arise.

Troubleshoot GPS corrections, radio connectivity, RTK fix status, calibration, sensor, and positioning issues affecting pile-driver accuracy.

Assist pile-driver operators with navigation to pile locations, selection of the correct pile, orientation settings, and installation guidance.

Coordinate with survey and quality teams to check pile location, orientation, plumbness, top elevation or reveal, and embedment requirements against project tolerances.

Review available machine installation records and coordinate collection of pile IDs, locations, elevations, and exception reports for survey and quality review.

Identify and escalate incorrect files, mismatched pile orientations, out-of-tolerance positioning, and equipment faults; suspend affected GPS-guided work until accuracy is verified.

Perform minor repairs and replace GPS components or parts as needed.

Coordinate with survey, pile installation, civil, and equipment teams to resolve field issues and implement approved file updates.

Support GPS-equipped dozers, excavators, graders, and other earthmoving equipment as needed for grading and civil construction activities.

Communicate equipment or GPS issues that require additional technical support or repairs.

Ensure GPS equipment and components are properly maintained and protected.

Lead daily work activities while maintaining production, quality, and safety expectations.

Participate in daily planning and safety meetings and communicate progress or field concerns to site leadership.

Qualifications

Previous General Foreman or Foreman experience in solar construction, pile installation, civil construction, or a related field.

Strong hands-on experience supporting GPS-equipped pile drivers and troubleshooting machine positioning and installation guidance.

Experience with Trimble GPS technology, including Groundworks for pile-driving applications, strongly preferred.

Knowledge of solar pile installation, including pile types, orientation, plumbness, embedment, and top elevation or reveal requirements.

Ability to understand pile plans, design coordinates, site control, calibration files, and project tolerances.

Ability to troubleshoot GPS equipment and identify common machine-control issues.

Comfortable performing minor repairs and replacing GPS components when necessary.

Strong leadership and communication skills with experience overseeing field crews.

Ability to work closely with surveyors, pile-driver operators, quality personnel, equipment personnel, and project leadership.

Must be comfortable working outdoors in an active heavy-construction environment.

Utility-scale solar construction experience preferred.

Must maintain a strong commitment to safety, quality, and production.

Preferred Experience: Ideal candidates will have direct responsibility for GPS setup, calibration, troubleshooting, and operator support on solar pile drivers using Trimble Groundworks. Experience resolving pile orientation discrepancies, verifying machine accuracy against survey control, and supporting installation records is preferred. Additional experience supporting mass grading, roads, drainage, and other GPS-equipped earthmoving operations is beneficial.
