Job Description

The GP will contribute to continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives and ensure the highest standards of care are met in line with UNSOS protocols.

The role emphasizes clinical governance, patient safety, quality assurance, and adherence to evidence-based contemporary guidelines.

Deliver high-quality, patient-centered primary care in accordance with UNSOS policies, clinical guidelines, and international standards.

Conduct medical assessments, provide diagnoses, prescribe treatments, and manage the overall health of patients across a variety of medical conditions.

Maintain accurate and confidential patient records, ensuring compliance with legal, ethical, and clinical standards.

Participate in the development, review, and implementation of clinical protocols and procedures to improve patient care and outcomes.

Supervise and mentor junior medical staff, promoting best practices and adherence to clinical governance frameworks.

Ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and compassionate care, addressing both routine and urgent health needs of UNSOS personnel.

Monitor and evaluate patient progress, making adjustments to treatment plans as needed to ensure the highest quality of care.

Adhere to infection control policies, safety protocols, and the proper handling of medical records and patient data.

Report and investigate any incidents or near misses, ensuring corrective actions are taken to improve patient safety and reduce risks.

Participate in medical audits and reviews to ensure that clinical practices comply with quality and safety standards.

Actively participate in CQI initiatives aimed at improving the overall health services provided to UNSOS personnel.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement evidence-based health programs to address emerging health challenges.

Engage in clinical audits, data collection, and reviews to assess patient outcomes and identify opportunities for improving service delivery.

Provide input into the development of guidelines and protocols, recommending enhancements based on best practices and clinical evidence.

Provide care in alignment with the latest evidence-based guidelines and best practices in general medicine and primary care.

Stay informed about advancements in medical practices, treatment protocols, and clinical research to ensure contemporary and effective care.

Apply evidence-based approaches to disease prevention, patient education, and health promotion to optimize health outcomes.

Ensure the appropriate use of medications, tests, and referrals, following national and international guidelines for effective patient management.

Provide emergency care and manage medical crises when required, ensuring timely and appropriate intervention.

Perform routine physical examinations, screenings, and vaccinations to maintain the health and well-being of personnel.

Provide health education to UNSOS personnel, offering advice on preventive care, healthy lifestyles, and disease management.

Collaborate with specialists, nursing staff, and other healthcare providers to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.

Contribute to the management of occupational health issues, including assessments and recommendations for workplace wellness.

Promote ethical behavior and alignment with Aspen Medical’s Social Purpose and B Corp principles.

Perform any additional tasks and responsibilities as required by the role or organization.

A first-level degree in Medicine and Surgery with a minimum of 3 years of progressive post-qualification clinical experience.

Board-certified/postgraduate certified by an appropriate body following the successful completion of specialist training in Family Practice, Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Infectious diseases, or Tropical medicine, with a minimum of three (3) years’ progressive post specialist qualification.

Experience in Remote Medicine.

Currently registered and licensed to practice medicine and apply specialty without supervision in own country or another UN member state.

English proficiency- a minimum of Level B 2 is required.

Experience working in international, humanitarian, or conflict-zone settings.

Familiarity with pharmaceutical software systems and inventory management tools.

Understanding of the regulatory environment related to pharmaceuticals and medication safety.

Ability to work under pressure and in high-stress situations, especially in emergencies.

Fluency in English; additional language skills are an advantage.

Shifts: Flexible working hours, with the expectation to work weekends, holidays, and night shifts when required 24/7.

Location: The role is based in Somalia within the UNSOS mission area.

Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, such as standing for extended periods in high-stress conditions, and managing physically intensive situations.
