PG&E’s Local Public Affairs team leads the Company’s government relations activities and strategies in the cities and counties we serve, helping to shape complex, proactive public policy debates that support our customers and local communities, invest in climate resiliency and the stability of the grid, and assure the long-term success of the company. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining strong governmental, political, and community relationships within Alameda County. The position requires extensive external engagement and a demonstrated ability to build consensus and partnerships across diverse stakeholder groups. The ideal candidate will possess excellent written, verbal, and public presentation skills, along with the ability to lead and collaborate across cross-functional teams to drive results in a dynamic, fast-paced, and often ambiguous environment.
This individual should be a confident public speaker with experience in public testimony and political engagement. The position is based in Oakland, with occasional travel throughout Northern California.
Provides strategic planning and analyses, and policy development. Develop strategies to support programs and initiatives incorporating understanding of customer needs, industry direction, business impacts and company vision. Work with regulators, utility industry peers and/or internal departments to influence the company and/or regulatory and industry efforts around current and future priorities, funding constraints and future business needs. Influence company and/or regulatory and/or industry priorities considering inputs from customer research, business impacts and PG&E strategies and priorities
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and Oakland General Office 3 days per week and based on business needs.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.
This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.
A reasonable salary range is:
Bay Area Minimum: $105,000
Bay Area Maximum: $169,000
Job Responsibilities
Government Relations
Develop and maintain a strong governmental, political, and community network within Southern Alameda County.
Serve as the primary political contact for assigned elected officials, departments, and agencies in Southern Alameda County.
Monitor activities of local jurisdictions and special districts that impact PG&E
Manage issues before local political bodies by coordinating internal analysis, developing company positions, and representing PG&E in public forums
Maintain a high level of awareness of the local political landscape and PG&E policy priorities; provide strategic political and governmental insight
Act as a liaison to senior government staff and elected officials and respond to escalated customer issues referred by those offices
Community Relations
Build and sustain partnerships with community organizations that support PG&E programs, assist customers, and advance company priorities
Lead local charitable giving strategies and community investment efforts within Alameda County
Partner with internal stakeholders to design and implement community engagement strategies that enhance PG&E’s presence and reputation in Alameda County County
Support PG&E Operational Priorities
Lead or support company programs, projects, and initiatives with public affairs components
Develop and execute political and community engagement strategies aligned with operational objectives
Assess potential impacts to the company and develop clear, effective written and verbal communications
Emergency Response and Rebuild Efforts
Participate in the company’s on-call rotation (approximately 25%), serving as the liaison between PG&E and local government leadership during emergencies, outages, and major events
Provide timely, accurate coordination and communication with city leadership during response efforts
Availability for after-hours and weekend work is required during on-call periods
Qualifications
Minimum:
Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience
Minimum of 3 years’ experience working for an elected official, public or non-profit agency or as a political Consultant
Valid California driver’s license
Computer Skills - Proficient in MS Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
Desired:
Bachelor’s (BA/BS) degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Public Relations, International Relations, or related field desired
Five (5) years of experience desired working for an elected official, public or non-profit agency or as a political consultant
Four (4) years of government advocacy experience desired for highly regulated industries such as utility, health care, banking, or political campaign experience
Skill in facilitating complex discussions and meetings
Skill in negotiating between stakeholders to reach an agreement
Competency in building strong relationships with customers and external stakeholders and delivering customer-centric solutions
Proficient in MS Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
Strong political and community ties to Alameda & Contra Costa Counties and jurisdictions
