Job Purpose:

The Government Contracting Assistance Specialist serves as a trusted advisor to businesses seeking opportunities in federal, state, local, and tribal government contracting. Through GSI's APEX Accelerator program, this position provides technical assistance, training, and one-on-one counseling to help businesses navigate government procurement processes and successfully compete for contracting opportunities.

This role is responsible for developing and maintaining client relationships, delivering educational workshops and outreach activities, assisting with registrations and certifications, and supporting businesses throughout the contracting lifecycle. The Government Contracting Specialist works closely with clients to identify opportunities, overcome barriers, and strengthen their ability to pursue government contracts.

As a representative of GSI and the APEX Accelerator program, this position contributes to regional economic development by supporting business growth, increasing government contracting participation, and helping businesses access new markets.

Essential Responsibilities:

Client Advising and Technical Assistance:

  • Provide one-on-one advising and technical assistance to businesses pursuing government contracting opportunities
  • Assist clients with SAM.gov registration and maintenance
  • Support clients in obtaining and maintaining applicable certifications, including small business and socioeconomic certifications
  • Guide businesses through procurement processes at the federal, state, local, and tribal levels
  • Assist clients in identifying contracting opportunities and understanding solicitation requirements
  • Maintain accurate client records and activity documentation in accordance with program requirements

Outreach, Training, and Business Development:

  • Develop and deliver workshops, presentations, and training programs related to government contracting
  • Conduct outreach to businesses and community partners to increase awareness of APEX Accelerator services
  • Participate in conferences, trade shows, and community events
  • Build and maintain relationships with government agencies, business organizations, and economic development partners
  • Promote program services and resources to prospective clients

Program Compliance and Reporting:

  • Maintain compliance with APEX Accelerator program requirements and reporting standards
  • Track client outcomes and program performance measures
  • Ensure client files and records are complete, accurate, and audit-ready
  • Prepare reports and documentation as required by funding agencies and program leadership
  • Participate in program reviews, audits, and training activities

Organizational Contribution

  • Collaborate with GSI staff and external partners to support organizational priorities
  • Contribute to a culture of accountability, customer service, and continuous improvement
  • Participate in special projects and initiatives as assigned
  • Represent GSI and the APEX Accelerator program in a professional manner

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, & Experience:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must meet the qualifications listed below. These requirements are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, communications, economics or a related field
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in business advising, economic development, workforce development, sales, customer service, procurement, government contracting, or related field
  • Experience delivering presentations, workshops, or training program preferred
  • Experience working with businesses, community organizations, or government agencies preferred

Certifications & Licenses

  • Ability to obtain and maintain APEX Accelerator certifications and training requirements
  • Valid driver’s license required

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to learn and apply complex information and regulations
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and CRM systems

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job:

  • Exposed to a typical office environment with moderate noise levels
  • Regular local travel to meetings, trainings, and events is required
  • Full-time, Hourly, position
  • Regularly scheduled to work 40 hours per week; occasional evening or early morning event may be required

Physical Requirements:

  • Work is performed primarily in an office setting
  • Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to stand and/or sit for prolonged periods and operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine motor coordination including use of a computer keyboard
  • Occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, twist. Occasionally lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 25 lbs.
  • Regularly utilize verbal and written communication to exchange information
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception

  • Competitive hourly wage $31.25 - $32.69
  • Hybrid work model available with up to 2 days per week working from home
