Salary SCHADS Award level 6 $110,102.72 - $114,983.44 depending on experience (pro rata for part-time)

About the Role

The Governance Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring that our organisation adheres to legal standards and internal policies. This part-time position is essential for maintaining compliance and promoting good governance practices within the legal industry in Australia. The successful candidate will support the development and implementation of governance frameworks, ensuring that our operations align with regulatory requirements and best practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of governance policies and procedures.
  • Monitor compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular audits and assessments to ensure adherence to governance standards.
  • Provide guidance and support to staff on governance-related matters.
  • Prepare reports and documentation for governance meetings and committees.
  • Facilitate training sessions on governance policies for employees.
  • Collaborate with legal teams to ensure alignment with industry regulations.

Selection Criteria:

  • Bachelor's degree in Law, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a governance or compliance role, preferably within the legal sector.
  • Strong understanding of legal and regulatory frameworks relevant to governance.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and governance management software.
  • Must obtain a Working with Children Clearance (WWCC) and a clear National Criminal History Check.
  • Relevant professional qualifications (e.g., Governance Institute of Australia) would be advantageous.

North Australian Aboriginal Family Legal Service (NAAFLS) is a non-government Aboriginal organisation offering legal services and support to victims of family violence and sexual assault.

The primary focus of NAAFLS is to provide culturally appropriate assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults and children who are victims of domestic and family violence, including sexual abuse. NAAFLS works in accordance to the Family Violence Prevention Legal Services “Operational Framework”.

Services available to clients include:

• Legal advice and casework assistance in areas relating to domestic and family violence, care and protection of children, victims of crime compensation, family law, wills, superannuation, housing and debt management.

• Information support and referral services.

• Community legal education.

• Prevention of family violence initiatives.

• Law reform.
