Ally and Your Career

Ally Financial only succeeds when its people do - and that’s more than some cliché people put on job postings. We live this stuff! We see our people as, well, people - with interests, families, friends, dreams, and causes that are all important to them. Our focus is on the health and safety of our teammates as well as work-life balance and diversity and inclusion. From generous benefits to a variety of employee resource groups, we strive to build paths that encourage employees to stretch themselves professionally. We want to help you grow, develop, and learn new things. You’re constantly evolving, so shouldn’t your opportunities be, too?
Work Schedule: Ally designates roles as (1) fully on-site, (2) hybrid, or (3) fully remote. Hybrid roles are generally expected to be in the office a certain number of days per week as indicated by your manager. Your hiring manager will discuss this role's specific work requirements with you during the hiring process. All work requirements are subject to change at any time based on leader discretion and/or business need.

The Opportunity

For over 100 years we’ve helped dealers serve their customers by providing best-in-class products and services — and by remaining true to the automotive passion we share. Join a team dedicated to delivering customer-obsessed auto finance products and solutions through trusted, well-managed data. We are problem solvers who value diverse thinking, support one another, and challenge ourselves to think bigger in our journey to enable data-driven decisions safely and responsibly.

Ally is committed to transforming our data governance and management capabilities to drive business value and uphold our “do it right” approach. We are seeking a results-oriented Analyst who brings hands on experience in data governance and management experience to support the execution and continuous improvement of Ally’s data governance and management policies, enablement services, and compliance measurement within the Data Solutions Support team. The Data Management Analyst will drive the adoption of enterprise data governance practices that ensure our data is trusted, well-understood, and compliant. You will partner with business and technology stakeholders to define data standards, establish data ownership and stewardship, manage metadata and lineage, monitor data quality, and support regulatory and risk requirements across Ally’s Auto Asset Management data domain.

At this time, Ally will not sponsor a new applicant for employment authorization for this position.

This position must sit in our Lewisville, TX office (2911 Lake Vista Dr, Lewisville, TX 75067)

The Work Itself

  • Partner with Data Product Owners, Data Stewards, and Engineering to implement enterprise data governance frameworks, policies, and standards across Snowflake and other strategic data platforms.
  • Define and maintain critical data elements (CDEs), data dictionaries, business glossaries, and metadata in governance tools (e.g., Alation, Collibra), ensuring consistency and traceability from source to consumption.
  • Establish and monitor data quality rules, profiling, and scorecards; triage quality issues, perform root-cause analysis, and drive remediation with owning teams.
  • Implement and maintain end-to-end data lineage (e.g., via Manta, Collibra) to improve transparency, impact analysis, and control effectiveness for reporting and analytics.
  • Support risk management and compliance initiatives by documenting data controls, evidencing control performance, and aligning to regulatory obligations and internal policies.
  • Collaborate with Analytics and BI teams to ensure governed, curated data is used appropriately; provide guidance on data usage, definitions, and compliance constraints.
  • Contribute to the design of curated data layers and data domains with an emphasis on governance requirements (ownership, quality thresholds, retention, access classifications).
  • Administer and enhance governance workflows for issue management, change requests, and stewardship approvals; track governance KPIs and produce dashboards and status reporting.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies; refine governance-related user stories, requirements, and acceptance criteria; prioritize work based on business-critical risk and compliance needs.
  • Leverage SQL and metadata tools to validate data definitions, perform profiling, and support lineage mapping; collaborate with engineering on remediation plans when needed.
  • Stay current with data governance, quality, lineage, and observability trends; recommend improvements to tooling, processes, and operating models.

The Skills You Bring

  • 1+ years of relevant experience in data analysis, data governance, and/or data management required.
  • Intermediate knowledge of SQL and relational databases is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; preferred fields: Information Management, Data Management, Computer Science, Data Science, Business Analytics, or related.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills; comfortable facilitating across business and technology teams.
  • Hands-on experience with data governance and catalog/lineage tools (e.g., Alation, Collibra, Manta) and data quality/observability solutions preferred.
  • Familiarity with Snowflake, Oracle, or SQL Server; ability to profile data and validate quality rules is preferred.
  • Understanding of data management principles, governance operating models, stewardship, metadata management, data lineage, and data quality practices.
  • Awareness of risk and compliance requirements relevant to financial services data (e.g., data privacy, retention, access controls, control testing).
  • Experience with cloud data platforms (e.g., AWS, Snowflake) and collaboration in Agile environments.
  • Reporting experience (Power BI/Tableau is a plus) and proficiency in Excel for status tracking and metric reporting.
  • Familiarity with Python/DBT is a plus for metadata extraction, data profiling, or lineage support, though this role is governance-focused rather than engineering-focused.
