Job Title: Varsity Golf Head Coach
Position Overview:
Cooperstown Central School is seeking a knowledgeable and motivated Varsity Golf Head Coach to lead the high school golf program. The ideal candidate will promote skill development, sportsmanship, and a passion for the game while preparing student-athletes to compete at a high level. This role includes overseeing team practices, matches, and communication with players, families, and school personnel.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and lead structured golf practices focused on skill refinement, course strategy, and mental approach
- Manage team selection, player development, and competition lineups
- Instruct players in golf rules, etiquette, scoring, and sportsmanship
- Supervise athletes at all practices, matches, and team travel
- Foster a positive and respectful team environment
- Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and school administration
- Coordinate with the athletic department and local golf course(s)
- Ensure compliance with NYSPHSAA, Section III, and district policies
- Track player progress and maintain match records
Qualifications:
- Required:
- Completion or willingness to complete all NYSED coaching certification requirements, including:
- CPR and First Aid Certification
- DASA Training
- Concussion Management Certification
- SAVE Training
- Fingerprint clearance through NYSED
- Preferred:
- Experience playing or coaching golf at the high school or collegiate level
- Strong knowledge of golf techniques, course management, and competition rules
- Ability to mentor student-athletes and support academic and athletic success
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
