Golf Shop Merchandiser

Directly reports to: Head Golf Professional

Position Summary

As a member of the Golf Operations team, the Merchandiser will assist in planning, purchasing, displaying and coordinating the golf merchandise concessions to provide members a first-class shopping experience. The position will be responsible for the daily upkeep of all golf merchandise sales, inventory, displays and all storage areas. In addition, assistance to golf professional staff will include but are not limited to answering phones, providing a consistent presence on the shop floor, covering the front counter, training staff on retail best practices, processing billing invoices, receiving stock shipments, oversee tournament orders and auditing vendor statements.

Position Responsibilities

• Manage golf merchandising concession as a service center for the Club’s membership
• Promote a first-class member shopping environment, building a culture of “members first” shopping experience for all members and guests in the Golf Shop
• Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of all inventories on order, displayed, and stored to minimize financial loss through neglect and increase consistent turnover
• Provide daily operating responsibilities including opening and closing golf shop and assisting day to day operations alongside the professional staff
• Design, maintain and rotate unique, visually attractive merchandise displays
• Maintain clean and organized storage rooms by receiving, tagging and displaying/storing new merchandise within 2 days of product arrival
• Train and motivate golf shop staff to maintain an exceptional appearance in the Golf Shop
• Assist the Head Golf Professional in development of buying plans and all golf merchandise related purchasing
• Assist with or manage receiving of billing invoices; specifically special order receiving, tracking and charging
• Review vendor statements for outstanding invoices so as to avoid accounts being placed on hold
• Maintain high levels of product knowledge on all stocked merchandise as well as industry trends
• Communicate product features and benefits to members and guests during their shopping experience
• Assist with training all Golf Shop staff on product features and benefits as well as sale techniques.

• Experienced in written and oral business communications with experience in budgeting
• Experienced computer user to include Microsoft Word and Excel. Proficient in other applications, i.e. Email, Internet, tournament and database preferred

Education

Bachelor’s degree preferred

Experience

Minimum (3) years in an advanced merchandising position in retail management and/or merchandising concession operations

Previous golf merchandising experience preferred

Additional education focused in retail industry preferred

PGA/LPGA Professional experience welcomed

Physical Demands

• Lifting, pushing, pulling, loading or carrying 40lbs or more
• Moving/driving equipment or motorized golf carts
• Bending, squatting, stooping, scrubbing, pushing, pulling, stirring, reaching, lifting, sitting, and twisting.
• Outside or exposed to weather conditions over a long period of time
• Long periods of standing or walking
