Compensation: $90,000 to $110,000 commensurate with experience

Bear Lakes has been considered a 'golfer's club,’ currently boasting two world-class golf courses, The Jack Nicklaus Signature Lakes Course and soon-to-be-Davis Love III Signature "American" Links Course, in addition to a state-of-the-art practice facility, tennis program, and a contemporary clubhouse. Both courses offer different and challenging play for golfers of all levels and have hosted everything from U.S. Open qualifiers to a PGA TOUR Qualifying School to various local and state championships. Position Summary:

The Golf Course Superintendent is entrusted with the day-to-day maintenance and agronomic management of one of Bear Lakes Country Club's two championship golf courses.

The Superintendent will take ownership of the assigned golf course, developing an intimate understanding of its agronomic needs, architecture, playing characteristics, and opportunities for continued improvement.

This position combines hands-on golf course management with significant leadership responsibility and requires someone who can translate agronomic objectives and established standards into exceptional daily execution.

Bear Lakes offers a unique professional opportunity to work within a 36-hole private-club environment featuring two distinctly different championship golf courses while gaining meaningful leadership responsibility, exposure to major projects, and continued opportunities for professional development.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for all phases of golf course maintenance, agronomic operations, cost control, and personnel.
  • Works closely with, advises, and coordinates with the Head Golf Professional and other departments on any golf course play and maintenance issues.
  • Assists in the planning and oversees construction, renovation, and maintenance activities.
  • Supports and assists with membership seminars and orientations.
  • Operates fiscally responsibly and professionally, developing, managing, and monitoring operating and capital budgets and expenditures.
  • Oversees the care and maintenance of the turf, ornamental plants, shrubs, trees, and wetlands.
  • Manages an aggressive water usage tracking plan and irrigation systems and provides monthly reporting on retaining ponds, wells, and other water source usage.
  • Recruits, supervises, and retains maintenance staff. Conducts employee performance evaluations and exercises disciplinary action.
  • Provides technical, operational, and safety training to ensure that staff work within OSHA, club safety, and state and federal guidelines for safe working conditions.
  • Oversees proper and safe operation and maintenance of maintenance equipment.
  • Supervises and participates in the application and recording of chemical applications (fertilizers and pesticides) on the Club's grounds in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Maintains records and completes required reporting.
  • Oversees inventory and orders parts, supplies, and equipment as needed.
  • Schedules maintenance practices around member play and outings to maximize efficiency and minimize disruption to members.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience leading, developing, training, overseeing, coaching, and motivating a golf course team.
  • Experience in managing and maintaining exceptional golf course conditions.
  • Familiar with golf course construction, renovation activities, equipment, and tools used in construction and maintenance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Understanding of pest control products and their applications.
  • Understanding of turf chemical and fertilizer products and their applications.
  • Knowledge of irrigation utilization, drainage installation, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of golf and how agronomic practices affect playability.
  • Have a BS, Associate, or Certificate in turfgrass management or relevant experience.
  • Have a current state certification or license for pesticide applications or the ability to acquire a license.
