About the Position

Astor Creek Golf & Country Club is looking for a skilled and experienced Golf Course Head Mechanic to join our golf course maintenance team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for the reliability, safety, and performance of the golf course maintenance fleet, including equipment repairs, preventive maintenance, and equipment records. You’ll work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent on equipment condition, repairs, replacement, and purchasing, while also helping the maintenance team with safe equipment use and proper care. With a new equipment lease package planned for 2027, this is a great opportunity to help transition to a refreshed fleet and establish maintenance standards for the new equipment.

Job purpose

Responsible for the reliability, safety, and performance of the golf course maintenance fleet. Maintains and repairs golf course equipment, manages preventive maintenance and equipment records, and advises the Superintendent regarding equipment condition, replacement, and purchasing. The Club is scheduled to receive a new equipment lease package in 2027, providing the successful candidate an opportunity to help transition and establish maintenance standards for a refreshed fleet.

Duties and responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain gasoline, diesel, electric, battery-powered, and hybrid turf equipment, including reel and rotary mowers, utility vehicles, tractors, sprayers, sweepers, pumps, trailers, and small engines.
• Develop and carry out preventive maintenance schedules based on manufacturer specifications, operating hours, seasonal needs, and equipment condition.
• Service and repair engines, transmissions, differentials, steering, braking, cooling, fuel, ignition, charging, electrical, electronic, and hydraulic systems.
• Perform reel grinding, bedknife grinding, blade sharpening, cutting-unit setup, welding, fabrication, tire service, battery service, and other shop work within training and authorization.
• Maintain complete equipment histories, daily work orders, inspection records, warranty information, parts usage, and preventive maintenance documentation using paper or digital systems.
• Monitor fleet condition and equipment life cycles and recommend repair, rebuild, replacement, and capital-purchase priorities to the Superintendent.
• Assist with planning, receiving, inspecting, setting up, documenting, and placing into service the Club's new equipment lease package scheduled for 2027.
• Maintain appropriate inventories of parts, tools, fuels, and lubricants; secure valuable inventory and obtain approved purchases through established procedures.
• Help develop and enforce safe operating, lockout/tagout, lifting, battery, fueling, chemical-handling, and shop practices. Train operators in daily inspections, proper equipment use, and early reporting of damage or abnormal operation.
• Investigate equipment damage or misuse, document findings, and promptly notify the Superintendent.
• Keep the repair shop, maintenance complex, service areas, and assigned work areas clean, orderly, and environmentally compliant.
• Coordinate with manufacturer representatives and vendors regarding technical support, warranty claims, parts availability, and specialized service.
• Demonstrate professional and courteous service when interacting with Members, guests, vendors, and fellow team members.

Qualifications

• At least three years of professional equipment-repair experience; golf course, landscape, agricultural, or similar fleet experience is strongly preferred. An equivalent combination of technical education and relevant experience may be considered.
• Demonstrated ability to diagnose and repair gasoline, diesel, electrical, and hydraulic systems using meters, gauges, scan tools, schematics, and service documentation.
• Working knowledge of reel and rotary cutting units, precision adjustments, grinding, and turf-equipment setup.
• Ability to use computers, tablets, mobile applications, digital work-order systems, and web-based fleet-management platforms.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record and the ability to obtain job-related certifications required by the Club or applicable law.
• Strong organizational, troubleshooting, communication, and parts-management skills, with consistent attention to safety and detail.

Preferred qualifications

• Technical school, trade school, or manufacturer training in diesel, automotive, small-engine, turf-equipment, electrical, hydraulic, or battery systems.
• Five or more years of progressively responsible golf course or turf-equipment maintenance experience.
• Experience with commercial mower brands, lithium-ion battery systems, welding, fabrication, and computerized maintenance-management systems.
• Knowledge of budgeting, equipment replacement planning, warranty administration, and vendor management.

Working conditions

Work is performed in a repair shop and outdoors in Florida weather and may involve heat, humidity, rain, noise, vibration, dust, fumes, lubricants, fuels, batteries, chemicals, moving equipment, sharp components, and the possibility of flying golf balls. Required personal protective equipment and established safety procedures must be used at all times.

Physical requirements

Must have the visual acuity, hearing, dexterity, and mobility needed to safely inspect, diagnose, adjust, and repair equipment. The position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, grasping, and working in awkward positions for extended periods.

Must be able to frequently lift and carry up to 40 lbs. and occasionally lift or move up to 80 lbs. with appropriate assistance or lifting equipment. Must safely operate vehicles, shop tools, hoists, grinders, welders, diagnostic equipment, and ladders within training and Club policy.

Employees may use ladders only within their training and Club policy. Work requiring access above eight feet, roofs, attics, or scaffolding must receive prior review and authorization from the appropriate Club maintenance representative and may be assigned to a qualified contractor.
