Reports To:  Golf Course Superintendent
Status: Full-Time Position

General Summary:
Assists the Golf Course Superintendent in overseeing all golf course maintenance operations and construction projects at The Greg Mastriona Golf Courses at Hyland Hills.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development of maintenance programs to ensure the highest standard of turf and facility maintenance.
- Supervision and personnel management of golf course grounds and horticulture crews. This includes hiring, training, disciplining, evaluating, and developing approximately 6 full time and 34 seasonal employees. Works with management and staff to ensure a safe and supportive work environment.
- Responsible to inspect and monitor golf course conditions for playing standards. Works with Golf Course Superintendent to determine and implement corrective action when necessary.
- Supervision of golf course maintenance programs including irrigation, mowing, pesticide application, horticulture (including Adventure Golf and Raceway horticulture program) and specialized agronomy and turf management.
- Ensure the golf course is compliant with government regulations for safe handling, storage and record keeping of pesticides.
- Oversee maintenance and cleanliness of maintenance buildings and facilities.
- Assist with the preparation and monitoring of capital and annual operating budgets.
- Maintains routine maintenance records including chemical applications, irrigation records, building maintenance, turf logs (including greens), inventory control, meter readings, comp time and daily work logs.
- Attend training sessions, workshops, staff meetings and conferences as assigned.
- Communicate and coordinate with golf shop staff on daily opening of golf course and any maintenance procedures that might affect play that day.
- Communicate and coordinate with Equipment Managers on equipment needs, scheduling and items needing repairs
- Assist with purchasing of supplies and materials for golf maintenance division including adherence to budget.
- Marking golf course in compliance with USGA Rules of Golf.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Other Duties/Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with Adventure Golf and Raceway staff to maintain landscape grounds and horticulture program at facility including staffing and purchasing of supplies and materials.
- Participates in weekend supervisor program at golf course, but on call at all times for golf course maintenance issues.
- Responsible to monitor safety of all employees and guests.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Requires advanced knowledge of agronomy and turf grass management practices; a working knowledge of golf facility construction principles, practices and methods; and a thorough understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf.
- State of Colorado certified operator or qualified supervisor pesticide license required.
- Thorough working knowledge of irrigation software systems.
- Requires excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Thorough knowledge of Integrated Pest Management.
- Member in good standing of local, Rocky Mountain Golf Course Superintendents Association and national Golf Course Superintendents Association of America.
- Requires valid driver’s license.
Working Environment/Physical Activities:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
- The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to fingers; also, to reach with hands and arms.
- Must be able to talk and hear and taste and smell.
- The employee is frequently required to stand and walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance.
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.
Education/

Experience:
Bachelor's degree, Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent from four or two-year college or technical school; three to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience (Degree preference in agronomy/ horticulture/ plant/soil science). A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a supervisor capacity. Must have a State of Colorado Pesticide Applicators License or obtain within 6 months. Must also possess a valid State of Colorado Driver’s License.
