Job Description

RH is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Gold Leaf Prepping Specialist to join our Dennis & Leen/Formations Workshop in Torrance, CA. This role supports the creation of luxury, antique-style furniture by preparing wood surfaces for genuine gold leaf application. The Gold Leaf Prepping Specialist ensures each piece meets the highest standards of craftsmanship and historical authenticity, bringing precision, artistry, and care to every stage of the gilding foundation process.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare wood furniture surfaces for gold leaf application using traditional techniques
  • Smooth and refine surfaces to achieve consistency and flawless finish quality
  • Ensure each piece is properly conditioned and ready for gold leaf work
  • Collaborate with gold leaf finishers to align on design, texture, and finish requirements
  • Inspect prepared surfaces to confirm quality and readiness for finishing
  • Maintain tools, materials, and workspace to uphold safety and craftsmanship standards


OUR REQUIREMENTS

  • 3+ years of experience in furniture preparation, decorative finishing, or related craft
  • Proven skill in fine surface preparation and detail-oriented finishing work
  • Understanding of traditional furniture craftsmanship and antique-style aesthetics
  • Proficiency with hand tools used in surface preparation and finishing
  • Strong attention to detail, precision, and consistency across multiple pieces
  • Background in luxury furniture, fine arts, or restoration preferred
  • Portfolio or examples of previous craftsmanship work preferred


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Handles and positions furniture components weighing up to 50 lbs. regularly
  • Performs detailed preparation work requiring precision, control, and focus
  • Stands, bends, and performs repetitive hand movements for extended periods in a workshop environment
  • Works in areas with exposure to dust, adhesives, and finishing materials while adhering to safety and PPE standards
  • Uses hand tools and finishing equipment requiring dexterity and fine motor control
