We are seeking a Guidance and Control (GNC) Engineer who will join a highly skilled team of systems engineering technologists and algorithm developers supporting missile system and fire control system design, development, integration, and test.

What You Will Be Doing

GNC Engineer tasks include:

  • Design, develop, and deploy embedded algorithms that perform inertial tracking, inertial navigation, sensor fusion, flight control, and/or guidance

  • Evaluate system performance in complex scenarios and environments and verify system and subsystem level requirements

  • Perform critical studies, analyses, and test activities that support ground and flight test efforts including Hardware-In-The-Loop (HWIL) activities

  • Opportunities will exist to join small teams of engineers and algorithm developers on a variety of different programs that are in various stages of product development.

  • Support program reviews and technical interchange meetings with internal leadership and/or external customers.

Basic Qualifications

-Bachelor's or Master's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, computer science, applied mathematics, or similar STEM degree.
-Must be a US Citizen; this position will require a government security clearance. This position is located at a facility that requires special access.
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment
-Familiarity in SW development environments like Git using programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, C++, FORTRAN, or Ada.
-Solid foundation in linear algebra, dynamics, coordinate frame transformations, and state estimation techniques
-Demonstrated ability to perform one or more of the following GNC or Modeling/Simulation assignments based on completed coursework or professional experience: Guidance algorithm development, autopilot development, inertial tracking algorithm development, servo controller development, 6DOF vehicle model and simulation development.

Desired skills

-Experience using a Linux-based operating system
-Familiarity with some, or all, of the following: linear algebra, probability and statistics, state dynamic equations, Kalman filter applications, kinematics and rotating coordinate systems
-Experience integrating and testing hardware and software in Hardware In-the-Loop (HWIL)
-Prior experience supporting flight tests
-Ability to occasionally travel for up to two weeks at a time to White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico to support flight tests. Experience in air and missile defense, development, and testing is required.
-Experience with different simulation and test environments (6-DOF IFS, HWIL, flight test experience, etc.

Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.

Work Schedule Information

Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

National Pay Statement

Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $68,000 - $119,830. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
Benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, EAP, Education Assistance, Parental Leave, Paid time off, and Holidays.
(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
This position is incentive plan eligible.

Premium Pay Statement

For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only.
