Job Description

Guidance, Navigation and Control Engineer – PX4 Flight Tuning  We are seeking a highly skilled Guidance, Navigation & Control (GNC) Engineer with strong experience in PX4 flight control systems to join our UAV development team.  Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform advanced PX4 firmware tuning for attitude, rate, and position controllers to optimize UAV performance across different aircraft types.
  • Conduct detailed flight performance evaluations, analyse log data, and implement tuning improvements for stability, responsiveness, and mission requirements.
  • Develop, refine, and validate GNC algorithms for navigation, control, and autonomous flight behaviours.
  • Integrate and calibrate sensors including IMUs, GPS/GNSS, magnetometers, barometers, and vision-based systems.
  • Execute SITL/HITL simulations to validate tuning and control algorithms before deployment to hardware.
  • Support flight-tests operations by preparing tuning configurations, monitoring in-flight behaviour, and troubleshooting issues.
  • Diagnose anomalies using flight logs and system telemetry, implementing robust fixes and improvements.
  • Contribute to PX4 firmware enhancements by modifying or adding modules when required for performance or functionality.
  • Document tuning processes, control logic, system behaviour, and validation results for engineering and production teams.
Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in GNC engineering, UAV flight control, or autonomous systems development.
  • Extensive experience with  PX4 Autopilot, MAVLink, QGroundControl, and comprehensive flight-log analysis.
  • Strong understanding of  control theory, aircraft dynamics, sensor fusion, and EKF-based state estimation.
  • Proficient with  MATLAB/Simulink, Python, and/or C++ for modelling, tuning, and algorithm development.
  • Practical experience tuning  multirotor, fixed wing, or VTOL platforms for real-world operational environments.
  • Skilled with simulation tools such as ROS/ROS2, Gazebo, JMAVSim, or AirSim for GNC testing and validation.
  • Hands-on experience participating in UAV flight tests, diagnosing issues, and iteratively improving system behaviour.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills suited for high-reliability UAV production environments.
  • Good spoken and written English communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s in aerospace engineering, robotics, control systems, or related field.
