Job Description

We are seeking an accomplished and commercially astute General Manager - Remuneration & Payroll to lead the strategic and operational delivery of payroll, remuneration governance and reward programs across Australia.

Reporting to the Executive General Manager, People & Culture, this pivotal leadership role is responsible for driving payroll excellence, ensuring compliance with legislative and corporate requirements, overseeing remuneration frameworks and incentive programs, and delivering workforce insights that support organisational performance and decision-making.

Working closely with Executive Leadership, Finance and operational stakeholders, you will play a critical role in shaping remuneration practices, enhancing payroll operations and fostering a culture of continuous improvement across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and governance across payroll, remuneration and reward functions, ensuring alignment with business objectives and organisational priorities.
  • Oversee the delivery of accurate, compliant and timely payroll services, maintaining robust controls and adherence to legislative, taxation, award and enterprise agreement requirements.
  • Lead the administration and continuous improvement of remuneration frameworks, salary structures, annual remuneration reviews and pay-for-performance programs, including incentive and bonus schemes.
  • Partner with executive and operational leaders to provide expert advice on workforce costs, remuneration strategy, payroll governance and reward initiatives.
  • Deliver high-quality workforce, payroll and remuneration reporting and analytics to support workforce planning, budgeting, governance and strategic decision-making.
  • Drive process optimisation, systems enhancement and continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency, compliance and employee experience.
  • Lead, develop and inspire a high-performing team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, customer service and operational excellence.
  • Manage relationships with external providers, vendors and specialist advisors to ensure effective and efficient delivery of service.
  • Support key People & Culture initiatives and business transformation projects relating to payroll, remuneration, reporting and workforce effectiveness.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Business, Commerce, Finance, Accounting or a related discipline.
  • Significant senior leadership experience in payroll, remuneration, reward and workforce governance within a large and complex organisation.
  • Demonstrated success developing and leading remuneration programs, annual salary reviews and payroll operations.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian employment legislation, payroll compliance obligations, awards and enterprise agreements.
  • Experience leading organisational change, process improvement and systems transformation initiatives.
