About the Role

Reporting to the Group Chief Data and AI Officer, as the General Manager Data Strategy, Management and Governance will define and govern ANZ’s enterprise data strategy, data management and governance operating model, data quality standards and governance frameworks. This role is central to building a trusted, controlled and scalable data capability across ANZ, ensuring data is treated as a strategic enterprise asset and managed with clear ownership, strong controls and measurable outcomes.

You will work closely with CDAIO leaders and teams, broader Group Technology teams, Risk, Business domains and data teams to align enterprise data strategy with execution. The role will lead the uplift of data management, policy, stewardship, governance tooling, data health reporting and control frameworks, helping ANZ strengthen its licence to operate while enabling high-value data and AI outcomes.

This is a senior leadership opportunity for an individual who can combine strategic enterprise thinking with practical execution, influence across complex stakeholder groups, and build a high-performing team focused on simplification, standardisation, accountability and trusted data

What will your day look like?

• Define, maintain and evolve ANZ’s enterprise data strategy, operating model and multi-year roadmap.
• Lead enterprise data management uplift across ownership, stewardship, standards, controls, lineage, quality, metadata and governance practices.
• Partner with Technology, Risk, CDAIO and business stakeholders to ensure data strategy is translated into clear delivery priorities and measurable outcomes.
• Establish and govern reusable data management patterns, policies, standards, procedures and guidance that improve consistency and reduce duplication.
• Oversee enterprise data governance tooling, including data catalogue, data quality, metadata and lineage capabilities.
• Track, report and provide insights on enterprise data health, including data quality, ownership, lineage, control maturity, risk appetite and compliance.
• Lead regulatory, audit and risk engagement by providing clear evidence of data controls, accountabilities, remediation and governance effectiveness.
• Lead the adoption of enterprise data ownership and stewardship practices across domains, building capability and accountability through communities, routines and enablement.
• Drive simplification and standardisation across ANZ’s data estate by influencing decisions that reduce complexity, improve trust and support enterprise-wide reuse.
• Lead, coach and develop a high-performing team across data strategy, data management, governance, policy, tooling and stewardship enablement.

What will you bring?

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in data management, data engineering or equivalent
• Proven experience defining and implementing enterprise data strategy, data operating models and data governance frameworks in a large, complex organisation.
• Deep understanding of data management disciplines, including data quality, lineage, metadata, critical data elements, ownership, stewardship, controls and policy.
• Strong experience establishing enterprise standards, frameworks, reusable patterns and control mechanisms that are practical, scalable and adopted across business and technology domains.
• Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders across Technology, Risk, business and enterprise governance forums.
• Strong understanding of regulatory, compliance, privacy, resilience and risk expectations relating to enterprise data, ideally within financial services or another highly regulated industry.
• Experience leading enterprise data governance tooling and operating practices, such as data catalogue, data quality, metadata management and lineage capabilities.
• Ability to translate complex data management and governance concepts into clear priorities, practical guidance and measurable outcomes.
• Strong people leadership experience, with the ability to build capability, set direction, manage performance and create an inclusive, accountable and delivery-focused culture.
• Strategic and analytical thinking, with the ability to connect enterprise priorities, risk obligations and business value.

Experience supporting data-enabled transformation, data estate simplification, AI-ready data foundations or enterprise data architecture uplift would be highly regarded
