As Global Sustainability Integration & Implementation (I&I) Consultant you will support the integration and implementation of ING’s Global Sustainability team’s three key topics- climate, nature and social in ING’s businesses and key functions across all three business lines – Wholesale Banking, Business Banking and Retail Banking. As a key member of the team, you will provide support to ensure that ING’s sustainability strategy comes to life in its everyday decision making and strategic priorities. Your priority stakeholders are primarily internal (e.g. Business Banking ESG teams, Sustainable Solutions Group in WB, front office, Finance, Communications, ESG Risk, Legal). Integration and implementation require persistence, a can-do attitude, excellent stakeholder management skills with the gravitas to draw others to join us and make sustainability their own.

The Group Sustainability Department
Our Group Sustainability Department reports directly to the CEO, and oversees the Sustainability Direction of ING Group globally, including strategies to support the sustainability journeys of our customers, our community, and our colleagues.
The team is committed to setting the standard for ING’s sustainability performance, and raising the bar for our peers, the sectors we’re active in and other stakeholders. We collaborate with all ING business lines, domains and countries. We encourage and help educate our colleagues and actively engage with external stakeholders to create a ripple effect on sustainability impact. ING has been recognised as one of the most sustainable banks in the world for our contributions to progressing action on key global challenges.
We are team of 36 people with diverse perspectives stemming from various nationalities, work experience, education and age. The team is organised around 3 sub teams: Expertise, Integration & Implementation, and Stakeholders Engagement, and includes topic (Climate, Nature, Human Rights) or area leads (WB, BB, RB, Finance & COO) as well as a pool of flexible consultants.
Roles & Responsibilities
Support and or/lead delivery of key workstreams within the Sustainability Integration & Implementation team, identifying dependencies, risks, and improvement opportunities
Connect initiatives across teams to prioritise sustainability and ensure alignment with Group strategy
Strengthen collaboration with Group Retail and WB/RB markets, supporting cross-market coordination and alignment
Support analysis and benchmarking across markets to improve transparency and comparability
Prepare presentation materials, track actions, and ensure timely follow-up on decisions and stakeholder requests
Contribute to internal and external working groups and industry coalitions, supporting ING’s external engagement
Continuously build expertise on sustainability topics relevant to financial institutions and ING’s sectors/regions
Support the preparation of clear, well-structured responses to internal and external stakeholders
How to succeed
Master’s degree (e.g. Environmental/Climate Science, Sustainability, Finance, Strategy, Business)
>5 years of relevant working experience (preferably with financial institutions, large corporate organisation or relevant consultancy)
Work experience within one of the key business lines of ING (WB/RB/BB) or similar functions in other organizations is key;
Expertise on one of the relevant sustainability themes and/or implementation & integration tracks
Project management skills – ability to deliver within strict deadlines and report on progress
Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time, juggle competing deadlines and deliver high-quality results
Demonstrated ability to be a team player who can collaborate well with complex and diverse stakeholders with varying interests
A self-starter who can prioritize and take action without too much hand-holding and help the team do the same
Willingness to work in the chaos of the unknown and new, with the ability to reflect and improve by learning and doing
An ability to present complex and technical topics/issues in a simple and clear way to others who do not have that expertise within and outside the team
Having a strong internal ING network and understanding of the organization and its “movers and shakers” is a plus
Fluent in spoken and written English
