Job Description

Build the Function. Shape the Future.

WD-40 Company is one of the world’s most iconic consumer brands — sold in over 176 countries, trusted by professionals and households for generations. We’re not standing still. As we expand our global footprint and navigate an increasingly complex regulatory landscape, we’re creating a brand-new role to lead our worldwide regulatory compliance strategy.

This isn’t a maintenance role. You won’t be inheriting a polished machine. You’ll be building one — from the ground up — with the mandate, the budget, and the executive visibility to do it right. If you’ve been waiting for a seat at the table where compliance meets strategy, this is it.

This role offers the flexibility to work a hybrid schedule between your home and our office in Pine Brook, NJ.

Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. and should not require sponsorship now or in the future to legally work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

Global Regulatory Strategy

  • Own and build the company’s first consolidated global regulatory compliance framework across all three regions: Americas, EMEA, and Asia-Pacific
  • Develop predictive, forward-casting regulatory analysis — identifying where regulations are heading before they arrive, across 6+ trading blocs
  • Translate complex, multi-jurisdictional requirements into clear organizational positions and commercial decisions
  • Lead proactive compliance decisions (like the company’s voluntary PFOS removal ahead of regulatory mandates) — driving WD-40 Company to be ahead of the curve, not behind it

AI & Technology Transformation

  • Lead the development of an AI agent to automate forward-looking regulatory monitoring — replacing a fully manual process
  • Partner with our technology firm to build and deploy regulatory intelligence tools that scale globally
  • Integrate AI and regulatory technology into day-to-day compliance operations, establishing WD-40 Company as a leader in RegTech adoption
  • No coding required — but a deep comfort with AI tools, regulatory databases, and emerging compliance technology is essential

Executive Communication & Stakeholder Influence

  • Own the consolidated global regulatory board report — currently compiled region-by-region — and deliver a single, clear executive view
  • Lead the annual global regulatory summit with regional leads to align timelines, flag risks, and set priorities
  • Influence business leaders across sales, marketing, and R&D to act on regulatory risk — translating compliance into business urgency
  • Communicate global regulatory decisions to all regions with clarity and consistency

Cross-Regional Coordination

    • Communicate global regulatory decisions to all regions with clarity and consistency
    • Provide dotted-line leadership and strategic guidance to regional regulatory leads (EMEA, Americas, Asia-Pac)
    • Coordinate packaging compliance councils across Supply Chain, R&D, and Sustainability
    • Manage external regulatory consultants and technology partners
    • Oversee global regulatory budgets, project timelines, and compliance reporting templates

Qualifications

Required

  • 10–15 years of regulatory compliance experience with meaningful multi-region exposure (US + at least one other region, ideally Asia-Pacific or EMEA)
  • Science degree — bachelor’s required, master’s strongly preferred — in chemistry, biology, environmental science, chemical engineering, or related field
  • Proven ability to interpret ambiguous, evolving regulatory requirements and build organizational positions in areas of uncertainty
  • Track record of influencing senior business leaders on compliance risk
  • Strong comfort with AI tools and a genuine interest in applying them to regulatory challenges
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills — you can make regulatory digestible for anyone, from scientists to board members

Preferred

    • Consumer products (CPG) or chemical products industry experience
    • Regulatory Affairs Certification (RAC) or law degree with regulatory focus
    • Experience building or deploying AI agents for compliance or regulatory monitoring
    • Familiarity with REACH, SDS/GHS, TSCA, WHMIS, or similar chemical regulatory frameworks
