About the Role

Join us as Global Head of Trading at AIA Investment Management!

We are seeking for a Global Head of Trading to build and run a trade execution function that supports AIA’s fixed income, equities, FX, derivatives activities with the objective of minimizing frictional cost of accessing the market and actively managing investment liquidity, oversight, provision of best practice advice and trading analytics to other AIA local trading desks.

Responsibilities

Execution Services: Implement best execution for all order flows in equity, fixed income, cash, FX, mutual funds, repos and derivatives coming through the AIAIM Trading desk

  • Provision of market intelligence, feedback, trade updates to all portfolio managers using the AIAIM trading desk
  • Regular meetings held with each AIA client to discuss ways of improving service quality, and trading performance against benchmarks
  • Liquidity Management
  • Collateral Management to support derivatives activity
  • Market Intelligence: The trading function is an interface with the various markets in which it operates, identifying opportunities, tracking investment liquidity and market activity, advising on pricing and best execution strategies

Relationship Network Management: Manage and maintain a network of trusted and reciprocal relationships with market counterparties that enable AIAIM’s investment and trading teams to make effective investment decisions:

  • Counter-party reviews- providing feedback on quality of pricing, settlement efficiency
  • Engagement with industry bodies representing AIA
  • Global market standards- Manage payments to counterparties in a way which aligns with AIA investment teams’ use of their services

Documentation and Reporting: Unearth and report actionable intelligence on markets and trade performance to investment teams, management and internal and external stakeholders.

  • Equity and fixed income trading performance reviewed in CEO report
  • Review trading performance with BU clients and group trade performance subcommittee
  • Pre Trade Analytics and Post Trade Analytics
  • Trade documentation as required by the IGF and local regulatory authorities
  • Electronic trading due diligence documentation where required by BU clients

Long-term Trading Strategies Work with portfolio management teams to implement and execute trading strategies to deliver size at price across their investment ideas.

Leadership: Establish and maintain a high performing trade execution team that delivers high quality market intelligence, and timely, superior execution, is stable, motivated and operates consistent with the culture of AIA.

  • Develop a strong trade execution team which has competence across a wide range of instruments, markets and venues
  • Develop trading capabilities at local AIA trading teams when required
  • Establish a strong culture of partnering with investment teams to achieve results.
  • Succession Planning, Training and Organizational Development.
  • Provide leadership on all aspects of dealing at AIA and lead ongoing development of AIA’s trading infrastructure and scope.
  • Organizing resources and tasks to maximize teams’ productivity.

Platform Development Build and maintain a trading process and platform that provides fast, low-risk, cost-effective and low-profile execution capability to AIAIM

  • Provision of trade execution services is a core service provided by AIAIM. The Head of Trading will ensure the setup and availability of a well-staffed and effective centralized trade execution desk that is available to trade whenever target markets are active (including public holidays in Singapore, different timezones etc.).
  • Establish, manage and continually improve trade process.
  • Enhance the order management system to be able to cope with a wide range of instruments and increased volumes
  • BCP/DR Readiness.

Risk Management & Governance: Set a high bar for investment standards and good governance of the dealing function. Encourage diligent, structured checking of trades before going to market, as well as establishing a culture of only committing to trades the dealing team has a high expectation of being able to manage safely and well.

  • Maintain standards and governance.
  • Ensuring high quality price discovery and minimal market impact.
  • Minimize execution errors.

Requirements

  • Deep understanding of markets, management of dealing functions and at least 20 years actual dealing experience.
  • Experience in Insurance AMCO a plus.
  • Experience dealing for retail or multiple fund format investors a plus.
  • Experience dealing in both equity, and fixed income markets in Asia.
  • Understanding of Asian markets and an appropriate network to develop knowledge of the identity, structure and activities of players in the markets in which we operate
  • Background in serving and supporting clients (i.e. not purely proprietary)
  • Ability to build & maintain teams, to manage in a collegiate way while ensuring a delivery-focused operation, personal focus on Conduct and risk management, creativity and willingness to challenge
  • Customer focused
  • Able to act as a licensed representative in accordance with requirements from MAS.
