Job Description

The Global Head of E-Trading Risk Management provides senior leadership over the complete range of independent Second Line of Defence (2LoD) Risk Management oversight for the firm's electronic and algorithmic trading activities. Operating with an enterprise-wide remit, the function develops the E-Trading risk framework and oversees firm-wide adherence to E-Trading policies and standards, working collaboratively across all risk stripes and with Independent Compliance Risk Management (ICRM). Primary business coverage is centered on the Markets trading businesses. The role builds and maintains credible relationships with senior management and regulators, and requires the ability to influence senior leaders and deliver concise, strategic communications on complex technical risks to executive committees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner across independent risk stripes and ICRM to govern and refine a unified, best-in-class E-Trading risk framework.
  • Own, govern, and continuously refine the firm's E-Trading risk framework, policies, and standards.
  • Influence, advise, and challenge senior business, Risk, Compliance, and Technology leaders to drive robust risk management on a global basis.
  • Distill complex technical, quantitative, and algorithmic trading risks into clear, actionable messages for executive committees, the CRO, and the Board.
  • Oversee 2LoD’s ongoing assessment of business E-Trading implementations, ensuring consistent application and prioritised effective risk mitigation.
  • Direct and develop a global team of specialized E-Trading risk professionals, aligning team capabilities and coverage with the firm's electronic trading footprint.
  • Serve as the primary 2LoD representative for E-Trading risk with global regulators.
  • Provide independent 2LoD challenge on E-Trading activities, pre-/post-trade controls, kill-switch standards and system implementations.
  • Perform critical assessments across the development, testing, and deployment of E-Trading systems, strategies and associated preventative automated controls.
  • Review, investigate, and challenge E-Trading incident root causes, trends, and read-across assessments including engagement with ICRM on potential conduct issues.
  • Drive the strategic roadmap for E-Trading risk analytics, developing KRIs, real-time monitoring, and reporting tools, leveraging AI/ML and automation.
  • Identify emerging E-Trading risks from AI, ML, and cloud-based execution platforms, factoring them into policy.

Qualifications

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication, distilling complex concepts into concise, compelling messages for senior stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to influence and credibly challenge MDs and senior Business Heads.
  • Strong track record of building consensus across risk, compliance, business and technology teams.
  • 10-15+ years of related financial services experience, with significant focus on electronic and algorithmic trading or trading risk management.
  • Demonstrated leadership of highly technical, specialized risk or quantitative teams in a global organization.
  • Multi-asset knowledge (Equities, Fixed Income, FX, Commodities), market structure, and automated execution platforms.
  • Strong understanding of electronic trading system architecture, including market data, order routing, matching engines, and pre-/post-trade controls.
  • Familiarity with system design and build issues, including QA best practices, change management control, data governance, time-stamping and operational resilience; conceptual understanding of programming and quantitative modeling advantageous.
  • Thorough understanding of, and ability to ensure adherence to, the regulatory frameworks governing electronic and algorithmic trading.
  • Extensive experience with risk governance committees and interaction with auditors and regulators.
  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative or technical field (e.g., Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering).
