Job Description
The Global Sustainability Manager is responsible for running Essex Solutions’ environmental sustainability program day to day and improving it over time. This role owns the company’s environmental data, carbon footprint, sustainability reporting, and key initiatives across manufacturing operations.
You will work directly with plant leaders, EHS, operations, sourcing, and leadership teams to reduce emissions, energy use, water consumption, and waste, while ensuring our data stands up to internal review, customer scrutiny, and third-party audits.
This is a hands-on role for someone who understands how sustainability actually works inside an industrial company - from meters and invoices to supplier data and site audits - and can turn goals into execution.
Key Responsibilities
Running the Sustainability Program
- Lead Essex Solutions’ global environmental sustainability program and keep it aligned with business priorities.
- Turn sustainability goals into practical actions at manufacturing sites.
- Work with plant leadership, EHS, and operations teams to execute projects related to:
- Greenhouse gas reduction (Scope 1, 2, and selected Scope 3)
- Energy efficiency and energy reduction
- Renewable energy sourcing
- Zero Waste to Landfill programs
- Track performance against short, mid, and long-term targets and identify where improvements are needed.
Carbon, Energy, and Environmental Data
- Own the company’s greenhouse gas inventory, including Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3
- Collect, review, and validate environmental data from global sites.
- Improve data accuracy, consistency, documentation, and audit readiness.
- Support decarbonization planning and alignment with Science Based Targets.
- Work with sourcing and suppliers to improve Scope 3 data quality and emissions reduction efforts.
- Support lifecycle assessments and product foot printing as needed.
Sustainability Reporting and Customer Requests
- Lead the development of Essex Solutions’ annual Sustainability Report, including both data and narrative.
- Manage external disclosures and customer sustainability requirements, including CDP, EcoVadis, and customer questionnaires.
- Coordinate across functions to ensure disclosures are accurate, complete, and defensible.
- Partner with Marketing and Communications to ensure sustainability claims are clear, accurate, and credible.
- Monitor, assess, and support compliance with emerging sustainability and climate disclosure regulations, including the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), and California SB 253 and SB 261
Responsible Sourcing
- Manage Essex Solutions’ participation in The Copper Mark.
- Coordinate site level documentation, gap assessments, audits, and corrective actions.
- Work with operations, EHS, and sourcing teams to maintain and expand Copper Mark certification.
- Help integrate responsible sourcing principles into broader sustainability efforts.
- Support customer and stakeholder questions related to responsible copper production, recycled content, low carbon materials, and traceability.
Governance and Internal Engagement
- Support the Sustainability Leadership Council with dashboards, updates, and executive materials.
- Monitor relevant environmental regulations, standards, and industry expectations.
- Work with Legal, EHS, and Operations to support environmental compliance and certifications
- Engage with external partners, consultants, and industry groups as needed.
- Help educate internal teams on sustainability goals, progress, and expectations.
- Develop simple tools and guidance that help sites execute consistently.
What We’re Looking For
Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in sustainability, environmental science, engineering, business, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in corporate sustainability, environmental management, or ESG - ideally in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Direct experience managing environmental data and sustainability reporting.
- Scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas accounting
- Energy efficiency and renewable energy projects
- Water reduction and waste diversion programs
- Experience working across operations, sourcing, finance, and leadership teams.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to explain data clearly to nonexperts.
Nice to Have
- Experience with The Copper Mark or other responsible sourcing or assurance programs.
- Experience supporting Science Based Targets and decarbonization roadmaps.
- Supplier ESG data collection or engagement experience.
- Background in manufacturing, metals, automotive, or energy.
- Master’s degree or relevant certifications
