Job Description

The Global Control & Protection System Application Leader is responsible for defining and driving the global strategy for HVDC Control & Protection systems. This role provides technical leadership across NPI,Projects and tenders, ensuring the delivery of standardized, high-quality, and cost-effective solutions aligned with customer requirements and business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Define and execute the global Control & Protection strategy for HVDC systems
2.Establish and maintain reference solutions, engineering standards, tools, and processes
3. Drive standardization and consistency across projects, regions, and teams
Provide technical leadership and governance across all Control & Protection activities
4. Ensure delivery in line with Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC) objectives
5. Lead continuous improvement initiatives, including lessons learned and process optimization
6. Develop organizational capability and technical talent within the function
7. Act as a key technical interface with customers, partners, and internal stakeholders

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the overall technical solution to meet customer requirements based on reference solutions
  • Identify and drive improvements in engineering, operational tools, processes, systems, and technical solutions to enhance customer value and business efficiency
  • Uphold the principles of Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC)within the teams
  • Work closely with Team Managers to plan execution strategies, provide engineering estimates, identify risks, and define mitigation strategies for new opportunities
  • Lead and mentor a global team of Control & Protection engineers and specialists, fostering collaboration and technical development
  • Own all aspects of Control & Protection system deployment, system configuration, and validation, as well as the usual integration challenges associated with control and protection systems
  • Implement and maintain control & protection system reference solutions and customer-specific solutions
  • Execute and provide guidance for the analysis and evaluation of assigned projects in line with business standards, practices, procedures, and program requirements
  • Use technical judgment to solve moderately complex operational, product management, manufacturing, technology, or engineering problems
  • Apply technical expertise and data analysis to support recommendations and bring new perspectives to existing solutions
  • Review and approve design documents and ensure quality deliverables are completed on time and within target cost
  • Define the overall technical vision for control system design and architecture across the organization
  • Oversee modelling and simulation activities, including:
    • HVDC system modelling in EMT tools (e.g., PSCAD, EMTP-RV)
    • Control system modelling in MATLAB/Simulink
    • Power system studies and network model validation (PSSE, PSCAD, RSCAD)
  • Ensure project plans include all required engineering studies and validation activities
  • Apply technical expertise and judgment to resolve complex engineering challenges and support decision-making

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, with specialization in power systems or power electronics
  • Extensive experience in HVDC Control & Protection system design and engineering
  • Strong expertise in:
    • HVDC control, protection, and sequencing strategies
    • EMT and RMS simulation tools (PSCAD, MATLAB/Simulink, PSSE, RSCAD)
    • HVDC dynamic performance and system studies
  • Proven track record of technical leadership in complex engineering environments
  • Experience in leading global, multi-disciplinary teams and driving cross-functional collaboration
  • Strong understanding of system integration in large-scale infrastructure or energy projects
  • Demonstrated ability to manage technical risks, drive decisions, and deliver under tight timelines
  • Experience in both technical and operational leadership roles
  • Willingness to travel globally and operate in a dynamic, international environment
