As the Global Business Leader for Cards, you are the strategic commercial architect of our indirect and sponsored international expansion. This is a senior, high-impact individual contributor role responsible for building, negotiating, and optimizing our regional banking networks and sponsor bank infrastructure globally.
Your core objective is to execute partner-led acquiring expansion strategies through sponsor banks and regional financial institutions. You will lead through deep commercial expertise, driving partner-acquiring enablement while collaborating with internal direct acquiring, compliance, and legal stakeholders who manage our central scheme licensing and infrastructure.
Responsibilities
Strategic Ownership & Business Case Alignment: Develop, own, and be fully accountable for the one-year business case and commercial strategic plan for partner-led acquiring expansion, aligning closely with the Chief Product Officer (CPO) and internal stakeholders
Partner-Led Strategy & Expansion: Define and execute the roadmap for indirect market entry. Identify, evaluate, and secure relationships with local sponsor banks and regional financial networks to enable payment capabilities in new jurisdictions
Sponsor Bank & BIN Sponsorship Negotiation: Lead commercial negotiations with financial institutions for BIN sponsorship, settlement terms, local banking rails, and commercial partnership execution, ensuring optimal cost models for the business
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Launch Support: Act as the primary strategic bridge between external banking partners and internal teams. Coordinate closely with internal acquiring, licensing, and compliance stakeholders to support market launches where required, ensuring local banking models align with overall scheme governance
Partner Acquiring Enablement: Act as the commercial champion for our indirect acquiring network. Ensure the product and operational setup of our sponsor banks are fully optimized, keeping a healthy, up-to-date pipeline visibility in tight cooperation with Sales teams to maximize regional revenue
Requirements
Extensive experience in the international payments industry, with deep domain expertise in card acquiring, issuing, or directly within a major card scheme (e.g., Visa, Mastercard)
Deep knowledge of global card scheme rules, interchange mechanics, and the international acquiring landscape
A proven track record of developing and executing commercial strategies for international market entry, having successfully launched acquiring services in new countries
Strong experience with P&L management and building complex, data-driven business cases for significant investments
Proven ability to lead complex, multi-faceted projects and influence stakeholders at all levels, including C-suite, without direct managerial authority
Experience navigating complex negotiations with financial institutions, regulatory bodies, and card schemes
Direct experience with the process of securing financial services and card scheme licenses in multiple jurisdictions
An entrepreneurial and strategic mindset, with the ability to turn complex regulatory and technical challenges into a clear commercial strategy
