Job Description

What We Do

At Goldman Sachs, our Engineers don't just make things – we make things possible. Change the world by connecting people and capital with ideas. Solve the most challenging and pressing engineering problems for our clients. Drive new businesses, redefine finance using AI, and seize opportunities at market speed.

Futures Engineering plays a key role in the firm’s ability to provide liquidity and execution services for institutional clients around the world, which are important revenue drivers for the firm. We use open-source industry-standard, and internal proprietary technologies to build cutting-edge platforms for pricing, execution, and control across millions of transactions.

The Futures Mission Control team owns the reliability, scalability, and operation of trading systems in production. This high-impact role connects software engineering, client coverage, compliance, and trading operations. We analyse real-time trading issues, build software tools that reduce operational toil, and manage robust production environments.

Who We Look For

As part of Futures Engineering, the Futures Mission Control team partners with Futures Trading to develop and support execution services for the firm and its clients. The team drives automation, improves real-time monitoring, manages the release and deployment lifecycle, and supports the day-to-day operation of trading desks and electronic trading systems. Sitting with the desk, team members are expected to interact closely with Trading and Sales business users.

Candidates need the technical and analytical skills to triage and resolve complex production issues while operating effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. In this role, you will diagnose complex system behaviours, coordinate incident responses, manage post-mortems, and oversee safe software deployments. By combining financial-markets interest with hands-on insight into production systems, you will directly influence, design, and implement enhancements to our electronic trading product offerings.

We look for creative, collaborative engineers who thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments. Ideal candidates are innovators and problem-solvers who possess:

  • A strong passion for automation and system efficiency.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A proactive mindset focused on continuous improvement and challenging manual processes.

How You Will Fulfil Your Potential

  • Production Management: Manage technical and operational risk for a fast-paced, multi-asset electronic trading business.
  • System Ownership: Measure and monitor the availability, latency, performance, and overall health of our production trading services.
  • DevOps & Configuration Management: Manage application configuration across production environments, maintain configuration-as-code practices, and drive the safe deployment of trading applications using Git-based workflows and SDLC tooling to ensure consistency, traceability, and operational excellence.
  • Toil Reduction: Design, develop, and maintain software tools and frameworks to automate manual tasks and improve operational efficiency.
  • Pre-Release Engineering: Support services before they go live through system design consulting, capacity planning, and rigorous release reviews.
  • Change Management: Safely deploy certified code and new functionalities into the live trading environment.
  • Collaboration: Act as a key liaison between trading desks, quantitative strategists, technology teams, and external vendors to resolve day-to-day technical issues.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive initiatives to enhance the stability, performance, and disaster-recovery readiness of supported platforms.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field is a plus.
  • 2+ years of professional experience in an SRE, Production Engineering, or a DevOps role.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one object-oriented programming language (e.g., Java, C++) and a scripting language (e.g., Python, Bash).
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Proven experience supporting and maintaining high-availability production platforms.
  • Solid understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and version control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts, protocols such as TCP/IP and FIX, and network topologies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with large-scale automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and release management
  • Knowledge of financial markets: including electronic trading, exchange connectivity, and trade lifecycle concepts.
