The Texas General Land Office is seeking a Government Relations Specialist (Legislative Aide & Legislative Content Aide) within the Governmental Relations Department of the agency.

Performs complex (journey-level) legislative and consultative work, serving as a liaison between a state agency and governmental and legislative entities. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Employees at this level may routinely assist others in performing work of greater complexity.

The Texas General Land Office primarily serves the schoolchildren, veterans, and the environment of Texas. The agency does so by preserving our history, maximizing state revenue through innovative administration, and through the prudent stewardship of state lands and natural resources.

What Your Contributions to the GLO Will be:

Legislative Aide

·Conduct research, analyze policies, monitor, and track legislation to communicate relevant information to agency management.

·Monitor standing and interim committee schedules and agendas; communicates relevant information to agency management.

·Prepare summaries of meetings and hearings.

·Update the office's correspondence management system with accurate contact information for officials.

·Prepare briefing materials, including compiling and organizing information.

Legislative Content Aide

·Conduct research, analyze policies, monitor, and track legislation to communicate relevant information to agency management.

·Coordinate and develop legislative communications and visual content by creating graphics, drafting talking points, and preparing briefing materials for hearings and meetings, ensuring legislative priorities and agency initiatives are communicated effectively.

·Monitor and analyze legislative activity to prepare timely updates, visual summaries, and digital reports for internal leadership and external audiences.

·Monitor standing and interim committee schedules and agendas; communicates relevant information to agency management.Update the office's correspondence management system with accurate contact information for officials. Prepare briefing materials, including compiling and organizing information.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

·Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in a field relevant to the assignment.

·Experience working with the state legislature, the U.S. Congress, legislative staff, or research services. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.

Preferred Qualifications:

·Experience in legislative or government communications.

·Proficiency in digital media tools and graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva) for creating visual content aligned with legislative priorities.

·Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legislative information into clear, engaging content for diverse audiences.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires the employee to primarily perform sedentary office work; however, mobility (moving around the worksite) is routinely required to carry out some duties. This position requires extensive computer, telephone and client/ customer contact and communication. It requires the ability to move and position oneself as needed for filing and similar routine office duties. The job also requires normal cognitive abilities requiring the ability to learn, recall, and apply certain practices and policies. It requires the stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions. Ability to read printed materials and computer screens. The individual must be able to move and transport records, documents, boxes, and all related information and materials, weighing up to 20 pounds when required.
