The Texas General Land Office is seeking an Accounts Examiner IV (Accounts Examiner) within the Energy Resources Department of the agency.

The Accounts Examiner performs highly complex (senior-level) accounts examination work. Work involves planning, developing, and recommending techniques and procedures for carrying out audits, examinations, and investigations of financial accounting records. May supervise the work of others. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

The Texas General Land Office primarily serves the schoolchildren, veterans, and the environment of Texas. The agency does so by preserving our history, maximizing state revenue through innovative administration, and through the prudent stewardship of state lands and natural resources.

What Your Contributions to the GLO Will be:

·ACCOUNTING ACTIVITIES, including but not limited to:

oEvaluates accounting and financial documents to ensure accuracy and compliance with departmental policies, procedures, and applicable state and federal statutes.

oProcesses monthly invoices for late payments and late production reporting, and reviews monthly statements.

oMaintains agency accounting records and ensures the accuracy and reliability of financial data, including fund records, customer accounts, and revenue collection records.

·CUSTOMER SERVICE ACTIVITIES including but not limited to:

oResponds to customer inquiries and researches customer accounts to ensure adherence to established guidelines and procedures.

oCommunicates with the public by telephone, email, and written correspondence.

oCoordinates and reviews the entry of information into databases and ensures that letters and other correspondence are accurately prepared and presented to customers.

oResearches information and resolves customer service issues.

·COLLECTION ACTIVITIES, including but not limited to:

oPrepares and sends periodic notifications of delinquent receivables.

oPrepares documentation required for thirdparty collection referrals.

oCommunicates with the Comptroller’s Office regarding delinquent receivables placed on warrant hold.

oCommunicates with the Attorney General’s Office regarding delinquent receivables referred for collection.

·ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT ACTIVITIES, including but not limited to:

oWorks with lease operators to ensure proper allocation of royalty payments.

oCollaborates with lease operators to verify the accuracy of GL03 reporting.

oCoordinates with lease operators to resolve unpaid invoices.

Prepares Buy Speed requisitions and assists the Minerals Review and Minerals Audit teams with travel arrangements.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

·Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in accounting, auditing, finance, or related field; may substitute full-time accounting and auditing experience for required education on a year-for-year basis.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires the employee to primarily perform sedentary office work; however, mobility (moving around the worksite) is routinely required to carry out some duties. This position requires extensive computer, telephone and client/ customer contact and communication. It requires the ability to move and position oneself as needed for filing and similar routine office duties. The job also requires normal cognitive abilities requiring the ability to learn, recall, and apply certain practices and policies. It requires the stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions. Ability to read printed materials and computer screens. The individual must be able to move and transport records, documents, boxes, and all related information and materials, weighing up to 20 pounds when required.

Preferred Qualifications:

·Two (2) years additional general financial experience

·One (1) years experience each with Microsoft Excel, USAS, MIP fund accounting software

·Two (2) years experience in account management activities
