Dewberry is seeking a GIS Specialist – Senior to provide advanced geospatial analysis, systems design, and application support within a mission-driven GIS Service Center. This role focuses on designing and implementing GIS solutions, developing databases and automation workflows, and supporting enterprise GIS operations, while contributing to complex, multidisciplinary projects. The successful candidate will bring strong technical expertise and the ability to translate requirements into scalable geospatial solutions that support client programs in water resources, environmental management, infrastructure, and land use planning.

Responsibilities

Production Coordination & Quality Control

  • Implement and manage quality control (QC) procedures to ensure deliverables meet established standards for accuracy, completeness, and usability.
  • Oversee procedures performed by associate specialists and technicians to ensure consistent production methods and adherence to workflows.
  • Approve and release final product databases, maps, and reports when delegated by the Service Center Manager.
  • Work independently on assigned production tasks while contributing effectively within an interdisciplinary GIS team supporting enterprise and regional priorities.

Enterprise Workflow & Database Support

  • Perform mapping and database management functions across multiple project types and operational needs.
  • Create and maintain schemas and workflow procedures that support enterprise GIS operations and repeatable production.
  • Monitor and help ensure proper data backups and sound data stewardship practices.

Operations Support & Vendor Coordination

  • Coordinate with hardware/software vendors to support a stable, problem-free operating environment.
  • Assist the Service Center Manager with user and project setup, accounting, and security activities as needed for operational readiness.
  • Support management and use of data collection technologies to meet program needs.

Required Skills & Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in natural sciences, engineering, computer sciences, geography/GIS, or related discipline (or equivalent relevant experience).
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of the Esri platform, including ArcGIS Pro and common extensions (e.g., Spatial Analyst), with solid cartography and production mapping skills.
  • 3+ years of experience with Python and/or ModelBuilder supporting GIS automation and production workflows.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent requests, follow established procedures, and deliver accurate products under schedule requirements (consistent with production/QC responsibilities).
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data integrity and production QC.
  • Practical understanding of enterprise GIS operations, repeatable workflows, and controlled data releases.
  • Effective communicator who can coordinate with technical teams, vendors, and stakeholders to resolve issues efficiently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ArcGIS Server and enterprise geodatabase configurations (e.g., ArcSDE) and/or similar enterprise GIS technologies.
  • Experience with ArcGIS Online administration (content management, users/roles, governance).
  • Recent completion (within ~2 years) of relevant Esri training such as ArcGIS Pro, geodatabases, cartographic production, 3D/visualization, or field workflow modernization (may substitute for some experience per contract guidance).

Must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record and ability to pass a driving record background check.
