The Indian Ocean World Centre (IOWC) at McGill is seeking a student to assist with research related to environmental factors (such as natural disasters) and exchange of commodities, ideas and people across the Indian Ocean World, notably during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
The ideal candidate will have a full understanding of ArcGIS/ArcMap (10.0); be capable of georeferencing and rectifying maps through transformations, digitizing data from various source materials (textbooks, atlases, written descriptive publications); possess a full understanding of the edit toolbar; be capable of accurately generalizing data without compromising integrity; be capable of finding data independently from dependable sources; be able to produce point layers from Excel files; and have an understanding of output size and resolution for printing.
