Job Description

GIS & Remote Sensing Specialist

Location: Kelowna, BC

THE OPPORTUNITY:

We are looking for a GIS & Remote Sensing Specialist to join our PRI team in our Kelowna location on a permanent full-time basis. Our preferred candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of related experience, and a post-secondary education from an accredited GIS program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide GIS & Remote Sensing support to internal departments & external customers.
  • Conduct simple to complex spatial analyses using both vector and raster data types to provide insights to planning, engineering, environmental and geotechnical project tasks.
  • Support design, configuration and mobile data capture processes using desktop, web, and mobile applications, including GPS technology and Drones.
  • Conduct data analysis, create maps and reports, and automate processes using programming languages such as R, SQL, Python, JavaScript, and ArcPy.
  • Collaborating with existing GIS and non-geospatial staff members across the company to assist in project prioritization to meet organizational needs, including data updates, workflow development and processing of a variety of data and mapping requests.
  • Developing high quality cartographic work products both in the desktop and web environments.
  • Create and maintain data & programming procedures and policies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Graduation from an accredited GIS program
  • At least 5+ years of GIS experience
  • Extensive hands-on experience with the Esri ArcGIS Platforms (i.e. ArcGIS Desktop, ArcPro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise).
  • Extensive experience with scripting languages such as Python, R, SQL, ArcPy, JavaScript, HTML and Power BI is essential.
  • Extensive experience configuring Esri mobile data collection applications (e.g. Field Maps, Survey123) to meet a wide variety of project field data collection needs.
  • Extensive experience with ArcGIS Online and/or Enterprise Portal to publish project-related sensitive data within custom web maps and applications for consumption by project teams, the client and/or public.
  • Demonstrated experience with satellite data, airborne LiDAR (terrestrial and UAV) processing and remote sensing tools.
  • Familiarity with open-source GIS software and tools such as QGIS, PostGIS and PostgreSQL
  • Strong cartographic skills for both desktop and web-based maps.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral) to communicate complex concepts in a simple way.
  • Strong organizational/documentation skills and the ability to prioritize workloads to meet strict deadlines.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and skills in data analysis, editing, and reporting with Esri tools, along with the ability to stay current with technology, prioritize tasks, and collaborate effectively, are key for success in this role.
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team.

NICE TO HAVES:

  • Education and/or work experience in the natural sciences or engineering field is considered an asset.
  • Prior experience within a consulting environment will be considered valuable.
  • Prior experience within with Indigenous Nations and communities.
