Primary Purpose of Job:

Stantec is looking for a GIS Analyst - GeoAI with expertise in geospatial AI and ML application in the Environment Services business line, to be based in the Pune, India office.

The GIS Analyst - GeoAI role involves supporting the various Stantec offices globally on projects that require bridging the gap between complex Remote Sensing (RS) analysis and scalable Machine Learning (ML) solutions, ensuring our global offices stay at the cutting edge of spatial intelligence.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of high-complexity Remote Sensing and GeoAI projects, ensuring technical excellence and timely outcomes.
  • Perform advanced image analysis including land cover classification, feature extraction, and change detection.
  • Apply advanced expertise in eCognition for Object-Based Image Analysis (OBIA).
  • Develop robust rule sets and segmentation workflows for high-resolution satellite and drone imagery.
  • Ensure all deliverables meet established technical QA/QC standards prior to submission.
  • ESRI GeoAI Ecosystem: Architect, train, and operationalize GeoAI models using ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Notebooks, and ArcGIS Image Analyst, serving as the internal authority on ESRI pre-trained models and deep learning frameworks.
  • Custom AI/ML Development: Design, build, train, and deploy custom machine learning and deep learning models using Python-based frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow), selecting the most appropriate technology stack based on project requirements and aligned to Stantec’s security policies.
  • Work with multi source geospatial datasets including satellite, drone, LiDAR, and SAR data.
  • Function as the GeoAI Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support innovative initiatives and identify new business opportunities across global offices.
  • Develop technical proposals, conduct feasibility assessments, and present GeoAI proof-of-concepts to international clients and internal leadership teams.
  • Standardize and continuously improve GeoAI workflows to enhance efficiency, scalability, and consistency across the global delivery team.

Must Have:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience delivering GeoAI or advanced Remote Sensing projects at scale.
  • Proven expertise in Object-Based Image Analysis (OBIA) using eCognition.
  • Strong programming skills in Python for geospatial data processing and AI/ML.
  • Practical experience with deep learning models for geospatial imagery (classification, segmentation, object detection, or similar).
  • Experience working with high resolution satellite or drone imagery in production environments.
  • Experience working on international projects or with global clients in a consulting environment.
  • Experience working with geospatial datasets and workflows related to water, wastewater, stormwater, or utility networks in infrastructure or environmental projects.

Preferred Qualification & Skills:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Applied AI, Geospatial Science, Remote Sensing, GIS, or a related discipline.
  • Exposure to LiDAR, SAR, or multi-sensor data processing.
  • Familiarity with deep learning architectures (CNNs, Transformers) for geospatial applications
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to work independently and manage complex technical challenges.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience producing project reports, user guides, and technical documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including technical staff, project managers, clients, and senior stakeholders.
  • Strong presentation and requirements-gathering skills are an advantage.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing workloads.
  • Familiarity with Quality Management Systems (QMS) is desirable.
  • Strong commitment to safe work practices and organizational standards.
  • A collaborative team player with an initiative-taking and professional approach.
