The Opportunity
Mosaic is seeking a GIS Analyst to work out of our Nanaimo office on Vancouver Island, British Columbia

The Role
Reporting to the Manager, FIS Services, the GIS Analyst supports enterprise-wide decision-making through the collection, analysis, and interpretation of geographic data. This role leads spatial analysis initiatives, manages GIS data and enterprise geodatabases, and delivers high-quality mapping and visualization products that provide actionable insights to project teams. The position also supports the administration of Trimble Land Resource Manager (LRM) and contributes to the ArcGIS Enterprise environment, including GIS web applications and data services, ensuring spatial information is accessible and reliable for internal and external stakeholders. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct complex spatial analyses to support business decisions, operational planning, and strategic initiatives;
  • Design, build, and maintain geodatabases, including data schemas, standards, and optimized data workflows;
  • Publish, manage, and integrate map and feature services within the ArcGIS Enterprise environment;
  • Develop and maintain GIS web applications using Esri Experience Builder, Web AppBuilder, and ArcGIS APIs;
  • Produce high-quality maps, web maps, charts, and cartographic visualizations for reports, presentations, and operational use;
  • Support the administration and integration of Trimble Land Resource Manager (LRM) with GIS systems;
  • Automate spatial data processes and workflows using Python, ModelBuilder, and FME;
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to understand spatial data needs and deliver effective GIS solutions;
  • Translate complex spatial data into clear, actionable insights for planners, foresters, and project teams; and
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and ongoing support for GIS tools, applications, and best practices across the organization.

What We’re Seeking:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in GIS, Geography, Geomatics, Forestry, Environmental Science, or a related spatial discipline;
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in GIS analysis, spatial data management, and cartographic production;
  • Strong working knowledge of the Esri ArcGIS Suite, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Enterprise;
  • Experience designing, building, and maintaining enterprise geodatabases, including data schemas and workflows;
  • Experience automating GIS processes using Python, ModelBuilder, and/or FME;
  • Working knowledge of relational databases, including MS SQL Server, in a GIS environment;
  • Experience developing GIS web applications using Experience Builder, Web AppBuilder, or ArcGIS APIs is considered an asset;
  • Familiarity with Trimble Land Resource Manager (LRM), forestry data systems, and coastal BC terrain is considered an asset;
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills;
  • Ability to collaborate effectively, communicate clearly, and manage multiple priorities; and
  • Forestry work experience and/or registration with the ABCFP as an RPF or RFT (or eligibility for registration) is considered an asset.

Compensation
The annual salary range for this position is $72,000 to $90,000. Individual compensation is commensurate with skill, relevant experience, and education.
