Job DetailsJob Location: Augusta Campus - Augusta, GA 30907Education Level: Not SpecifiedSalary Range: $24.50 - $18.50 HourlyTravel Percentage: Road WarriorJob Shift: Flexible, rotating shiftJob Category: Goodwill Administration and SupportThe Custodian III – Specialty Projects works on custodial projects that involve advanced, focused cleaning tasks beyond routine janitorial work, including deep carpet/upholstery cleaning, high-level window washing, specialized floor care (stripping/waxing), and high dusting including external HVAC returns and ductwork across multiple facilities.
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
Advanced Floor Care
Perform specialized floor care services including stripping, waxing, buffing, burnishing, and refinishing of hard surface floors.
Operate and maintain floor care equipment such as auto scrubbers, burnishers, buffers, and extractors.
Clean and maintain carpeted areas using extraction and spot-cleaning techniques.
Assess floor conditions and recommend appropriate cleaning methods and schedules.
Ensure proper use, dilution, and storage of cleaning chemicals in compliance with safety standards.
High Dusting & Detail Cleaning
Perform high dusting of ceilings, vents, light fixtures, beams, ledges, and other elevated or hard-to-reach areas.
Safely use ladders, lifts, and extension tools following all safety protocols.
Conduct detailed cleaning projects such as post-construction clean-up, deep cleans, and periodic facility refreshes.
Safety & Compliance
Follow OSHA guidelines, safety policies, and proper personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
Identify and report maintenance or safety issues observed during cleaning activities.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times.
Coordination & Support
Coordinate work schedules and project timing with supervisors and facility staff to minimize disruption.
Support general custodial staff during large projects or special cleaning needs.
Document completed work and communicate project status or issues to supervisors.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Cleaning & Sanitation - Knowledge of proper cleaning methods for various surfaces and has ability to maintain high sanitation standards (restrooms, kitchens, high-touch areas).
Occupational Safety - Understands and follows OSHA guidelines, exhibits proper use of PPE, and recognizes and reports safety hazards.
Chemical Handling - Understands SDS (Safety Data Sheets), ability to mix and dilute cleaning solutions correctly, and prevents chemical spills and cross-contamination.
Reliability & Accountability - Punctual and dependable with a strong attention to detail.
Professionalism - Courteous and respectful with students, staff, guests, and coworkers.
Communication - Reports maintenance needs to supervisors and understands written and verbal instructions.
Time Management - Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Minimum of 1–3 years of custodial or facilities experience, with demonstrated expertise in advanced floor care.
Experience with high dusting and working at heights preferred.
Knowledge of floor care chemicals, equipment, and techniques.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to climb ladders and operate lifts safely.
Ability to work extended hours on feet and perform repetitive motions.
Work Environment
Work is performed indoors across multiple facilities.
Exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, and varying temperatures.
Evening, overnight, or weekend work may be required for project-based cleaning.

Dr. Edgar J. Helms, Jr., founded the Goodwill movement in Boston in 1902 based on one simple philosophy: What people really want is "not charity, but a chance"​ to work.

Goodwill Industries of Middle Georgia was founded in 1975. When James K. Stiff, came to Goodwill of Middle Georgia in 1994, the organization was still very small, employing only 60 individuals. Mr. Stiff saw the need for the services that Goodwill provides in the CSRA and added them in 1996. Since then, Goodwill Industries of Middle Georgia and the CSRA has grown to over 700 individuals on payroll and 14 value retail stores.
