Major Responsibilities:
The Gift Shop Assistant is an ambassador of Advocate Condell Medical Center providing exemplary customer service and customer interaction. This person must maintain all department cash handling standards with flawless executuion. Assists in maintaining the merchandise and appearance of the gift shop.
1)Be able to open and close the shop. Assist the supervisor of the gift shop with merchandising and display.
2)Have knowledge of cash register, credit card machine and associate payroll deductions and all cash, credit card and payroll deduction shop policies and procedures.
3)Have knowledge of all policy and procedures as they relate to the Gift Shop, Condell Medical Center and Advocate.
4)Assists in coordinating innovative ideas and displays for windows and showcases.
5)Accepts responsiblity for the gift shop in the absence of the supervisor.
6)Assists in inventory and inventory maintenance.
7)Cross-train with coffee shop to be able to provide customer service.
8)Flexible in hours worked, including day, evening and weekend shifts.
9)Other duties as assigned.
Assists in training new volunteers to help in the gift shop.
1)Provides assitance to volunteers to learn the cash register, charge and payroll deduction practices of the gift shop.
2)Mentors and coaches volunteers on Advocate Condell Medical Center service standards and customer service practices.
3)Assigns duties within the gift shop volunteer service descriptions to shift volunteers.
Education/Experience Required:
High School Graduate Some experience working with volunteers. 1year or more retail experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
Ability to operate cash register and credit card machine.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Ability to work with paid and unpaid staff of varied ages and backgrounds. Ability to work with many interruptions in a courteous manner. Ability to move merchandise, display pieces and storeroom inventory on a regular basis. Ability to be flexible with working hours during days, evenings and weekends. Ability to perform medium lifting: Lifting up to 20 to 40 lbs. occasionally and/or 10-25 lbs. frequently and/or up to 10 lbs. constantly.
If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
