Job Description

As a GI Senior Chemist you will be reporting to Industrial Coatings Technical Manager.

Main Responsibilities

• Discuss project objectives with supervisor to gain an understanding of the scope, objectives, and deliverables of assigned projects.

• Plan and conduct experimental work and laboratory programs for a small portfolio of projects in compliance with all safety, quality, and work processes and procedures.

• Analyze and interpret experimental results to validate hypotheses, determine next steps, and provide recommendations for product development, product improvement, cost reduction, and process improvement initiatives.

• Monitor project progress and make recommendations for changes in project direction based on data analysis and relevant competitive information.

• Prepare technical reports and presentations to communicate findings, conclusions, and recommendations.

• Maintain a good knowledge of current formulation practices and the product portfolio.

• Manage up to three project tasks simultaneously and deliver agreed project deadlines.

• Provide technical support to internal functions including Production, Marketing, Sales, and Procurement.

• Interact with customers and suppliers as required to support business and project needs.

• Contribute ideas and technical expertise to new product development, existing product improvement, and business support activities.

• Demonstrate a strong understanding of EHS practices and Product Stewardship requirements.

Qualifications

• Graduate with Honours Degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline.

• Minimum 3 years of experience in a technical role at a relevant company within the chemical or coatings industry.

• Good knowledge of paint making, testing techniques & colour theory.

• Sound understanding of paint manufacturing and production processes.

• Good knowledge of formulating rules and principles.

• Broad appreciation of raw material suppliers and their technologies.

• Sound understanding of PPG and competitive product ranges.

• Has good understanding of end user customs and practices.

• Working knowledge of all laboratory & EHS processes and procedures.
