Job Description

At LSTC Group Ltd, we're looking for a driven and results-oriented Geotechnical Site Engineer to join our growing project team. If you're passionate about ground investigation, enjoy variety in your workday — from desk study to site supervision to report writing — and want to build your career towards chartership, this role is for you.

What you'll be doing

• Taking projects on a journey: from desk study and site reconnaissance, through ground model development, to site investigation and final geotechnical reporting.
• Supervising and managing subcontractors on site across the UK, ensuring work is delivered safely, on time and within budget — including occasional out-of-hours and weekend work.
• Logging and sampling soils to British Standards, and preparing/reviewing factual and interpretive ground investigation reports.
• Supporting foundation design in line with UK and client standards.
• Liaising directly with clients — understanding their briefs, agreeing deliverables, and keeping them updated on progress and quality.
• Preparing budgets, schedules, fees and programmes, and submitting monthly progress reports.
• Reviewing method statements and risk assessments, and championing health & safety and CDM compliance on every project.
• Mentoring and supporting less experienced engineers, sharing your knowledge and helping shape the next generation of geotechnical talent.
• Traveling across the UK to project sites and, where needed, working from our Tadcaster and other LSTC offices.

Qualifications

What we're looking for

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, Geotechnical Engineering or a related field.
• At least 2 years' experience in ground investigation.
• Ideally, membership (or progress towards chartership) with ICE or GSL.
• A valid UK driving licence.
• Solid understanding of British Standards and Eurocode Design principles.
• Strong IT skills (MS Office essential; working knowledge of GIS tools like ArcGIS/QGIS a plus; CAD or geotechnical/structural software experience is a bonus).
• Excellent communication and report-writing skills, high attention to detail, and strong numeracy.
• A proactive, flexible, self-motivated approach — someone who thrives on variety and enjoys collaborating across disciplines.
