Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Geotechnical Lead to provide technical leadership, engineering oversight, and design/construction support for geotechnical activities associated with a major Airport, Infrastructure, and Airfield Development Project.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing geotechnical engineering activities including ground investigations, soil characterization, foundation assessments, earthworks, ground improvement, slope stability, pavement subgrade evaluation, excavation support, and geotechnical risk management across airport facilities and airfield infrastructure.

The Geotechnical Lead will support the successful delivery of complex airport developments including passenger terminals, runways, taxiways, cargo aprons, aircraft stands, roads, utilities, and associated infrastructure, ensuring all geotechnical solutions comply with project requirements, international standards, and aviation infrastructure expectations.

The role requires extensive experience in major infrastructure and airport projects, strong technical leadership, multidisciplinary coordination, and proven capability in managing geotechnical design, review, and construction support activities.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Lead and manage geotechnical engineering activities across the airport development program.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to geotechnical engineers, consultants, contractors, and specialist teams.
  • Establish geotechnical engineering strategies, review procedures, and technical standards.
  • Ensure geotechnical deliverables align with project objectives, contractual requirements, and operational needs.
  • Support technical decision-making and provide expert advice to project leadership.
  • Lead the review and assessment of geotechnical investigations, including:
    • Borehole investigations.
    • Trial pits.
    • Laboratory testing.
    • In-situ testing.
    • Geophysical surveys.
  • Review geotechnical reports, soil profiles, groundwater conditions, and engineering recommendations.
  • Evaluate site conditions and identify geotechnical risks affecting project delivery.
  • Ensure adequate ground characterization for design and construction activities.
  • Review geotechnical parameters for foundations, pavements, earthworks, and underground infrastructure.
  • Lead the review of geotechnical aspects associated with:
    • Passenger terminal buildings.
    • Cargo facilities.
    • Runways and taxiways.
    • Aircraft aprons and stands.
    • Roads and parking facilities.
    • Utility corridors.
    • Bridges, culverts, and underground structures.
  • Review foundation solutions including shallow foundations, deep foundations, piles, and ground improvement systems.
  • Assess settlement, bearing capacity, seismic considerations, and long-term ground performance.
  • Ensure geotechnical designs support safe and reliable airport operations.
  • Review earthworks strategies including:
    • Cut and fill operations.
    • Soil improvement.
    • Compaction requirements.
    • Embankment construction.
    • Slope stability measures.
  • Assess ground improvement techniques such as:
    • Soil stabilization.
    • Geosynthetics.
    • Deep soil mixing.
    • Stone columns.
    • Preloading and consolidation.
  • Support optimization of earthworks quantities and construction methodologies.
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications and quality requirements.
  • Provide geotechnical support for airfield pavement systems including:
    • Runways.
    • Taxiways.
    • Aprons.
    • Aircraft parking stands.
  • Review subgrade characteristics, pavement foundation requirements, and soil improvement solutions.
  • Coordinate with pavement engineers regarding CBR values, material suitability, and pavement performance requirements.
  • Support evaluation of geotechnical risks affecting pavement durability and operational performance.
  • Provide geotechnical engineering support during construction, testing, commissioning, and handover activities.
  • Review contractor submissions including:
    • Method statements.
    • Earthworks proposals.
    • Geotechnical reports.
    • Material approvals.
    • Technical queries.
  • Support site teams in resolving geotechnical challenges.
  • Review field testing results including compaction tests, material testing, and ground improvement verification.
  • Conduct site visits and technical inspections as required.
  • Coordinate geotechnical interfaces with:
    • Civil engineering.
    • Structural engineering.
    • Pavement engineering.
    • Utilities.
    • Airfield systems.
    • MEP disciplines.
    • Construction teams.
  • Participate in design coordination meetings and technical workshops.
  • Ensure geotechnical considerations are incorporated into overall project solutions.
  • Support BIM and digital engineering coordination where applicable.
  • Identify geotechnical risks affecting project cost, schedule, safety, and performance.
  • Develop mitigation strategies for ground-related challenges.
  • Lead geotechnical risk assessments and technical reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with geotechnical design standards, project specifications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support quality audits and technical assurance reviews.
  • Prepare and review geotechnical engineering reports, assessments, and technical recommendations.
  • Maintain records of geotechnical reviews, approvals, site observations, and engineering decisions.
  • Provide regular technical updates to Project Management regarding geotechnical risks, progress, and issues.
  • Support preparation of project closeout documentation and asset handover requirements.

What Required Skills You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related Engineering discipline.
  • Master's Degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Soil Mechanics is preferred.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, design review, and construction support.
  • Proven experience on major:
    • Airport developments.
    • Airfield infrastructure projects.
    • Transportation projects.
    • Large-scale civil infrastructure programs.
  • Strong experience in:
    • Ground investigation management.
    • Foundation engineering.
    • Earthworks.
    • Ground improvement.
    • Pavement subgrade assessment.
    • Geotechnical risk management.
  • Experience working with clients, consultants, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Strong knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles, soil mechanics, and foundation design.
  • Extensive experience reviewing geotechnical investigations, calculations, and technical reports.
  • Knowledge of international geotechnical standards including ASTM, BS/EN, Eurocodes, AASHTO, and applicable local requirements.
  • Experience with geotechnical analysis software such as PLAXIS, GeoStudio, SLOPE/W, Settle3D, or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of airport infrastructure geotechnical requirements.
  • Experience with earthworks specifications, compaction control, and construction quality requirements.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical review capabilities.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage complex geotechnical challenges within a major airport development environment.

What Desired Skills You'll Bring:

  • Professional Engineer (PE), Chartered Engineer (CEng), or equivalent professional registration.
  • International airport geotechnical design and construction experience.
  • Experience with major greenfield airport developments and airfield expansion projects.
  • Knowledge of ICAO Annex 14, FAA airport pavement and geotechnical requirements, and aviation infrastructure standards.
  • Experience with FIDIC or similar international contract frameworks.
  • Experience supporting Design-Build, EPC, PMC, or Delivery Partner project delivery models.
  • Experience managing specialist geotechnical consultants and contractors.
  • Strong stakeholder coordination experience with airport authorities, designers, and construction teams.
