Anglo American Steelmaking Coal

Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate three steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin.

We are currently seeking an experienced Geoscience Coordinator to oversee and manage geological and geotechnical activities, ensuring the effective utilisation of geoscience information and the success of our projects. You will play a critical role in coordinating fieldwork, data analysis, and compliance with industry standards and regulations.

You will lead a team of geologists, geotechnical engineers and technicians, managing geoscience fieldwork, data collection, and analysis for various projects. Develop project timelines, budgets, and resource management plans, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to achieve project objectives.

This role will involve the analysis of geoscience data, interpretation of findings, and the presentation of comprehensive reports. You will stay abreast of industry trends and technological advancements, ensuring that our geological activities remain at the forefront of the field.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and oversee geoscience fieldwork, data collection, and analysis.
  • Develop project timelines, budgets, and resource management plans.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project objectives.
  • Analyze geoscience data and produce comprehensive reports.
  • Interpret geological/geotechnical information to identify potential risks and opportunities.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and technological advancements.
  • Assess geological resources and reserves for various purposes.
  • Contribute to resource estimation and modeling activities.
  • Ensure compliance with geological/geotechnical regulations and permitting processes.
  • Lead and mentor a team of geologists, geotechnical engineers and technicians.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Communicate geological/geotechnical findings and recommendations to stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology/Geotechnical Engineering or a related field (Master's degree desirable).
  • Experience in geological and/or fieldwork, data analysis, and project management.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Familiarity with geological/geotechnical regulations and compliance.
  • Flexibility to work in different geological environments.
  • Any relevant professional registration (Desirable)
  • Demonstrate and use skills in geological/geophysical/geotechnical interpretation and modelling via the proficient use of MINEX and/or Vulcan or other geology/geotechnical computer software packages.
  • Demonstrate and use skills in other necessary computer software packages (e.g. Vulcan, Deswik, CAD drafting, word processor, spreadsheet, statistical analysis, file manipulation, data logging).
