Job Description

Step into a role where your curiosity meets purpose. Join our Field Exploration team and contribute to securing LKAB’s future in a workplace that values collaboration, innovation and long-term sustainability.

The sustainable transformation begins with us

We are facing our greatest challenge yet – ensuring that Sweden and Europe have what it takes to transform. So that we can live the lives we want, both today and tomorrow. In the same way that we strive to improve the future, we are committed to developing everyone who joins us on this journey, both personally and professionally.

Would you like to be part of laying the foundation for the way we live – and for the world around us?

Your role

We are now looking for geologists to our Field Exploration section in Malmberget and Kiruna. The Exploration department works to identify and investigate mineral deposits and secure LKAB’s future. Mineral resources and reserves are LKAB’s most important asset; therefore, our work is a prerequisite for a sustainable and long-term competitive LKAB.

As part of our team, you work in close collaboration with other geologists and technicians in an interesting workplace with challenging duties and good opportunities for further development.

For these roles the main tasks to start with will be collection and interpretation of geological data from field targets and drill core, with an expectation to grow into a geologist managing field projects.

The Field Exploration section is amongst other things responsible for:

  • Delineating new exploration targets outside the current mining areas
  • Executing field projects (field work, drilling)
  • Drill core logging & sampling, including QAQC and validation of drill hole data
  • Interpretation of a wide range of geological data and close collaboration with the geophysics group
  • 3D Modelling in Leapfrog

What you bring

We are looking for someone who is eager to apply their geological expertise while continuing to learn and grow. You enjoy collaborating in a multidisciplinary exploration team and understand how your contribution supports the success of each project. You are solution-oriented, responsible and committed to delivering high-quality work on time.

For this role, you should have:

  • A university degree in geology (minimum B.Sc.)
  • Practical experience in exploration is an advantage, but recent graduates are also encouraged to apply
  • A valid driver’s license (equivalent to Swedish B driver’s license for manual transmission vehicles)
  • Fluency in English, both spoken and written; Swedish is a plus, or a willingness to learn
  • Knowledge of Fennoscandian geology, structural geology and working experience in the Arctic is a plus
  • Proficiency in common softwares such as GIS, acQuire, ioGas and Leapfrog
  • Strong collaboration skills and a responsible, flexible, and perceptive mindset

What we offer

In addition to the general benefits we offer — which you can find a bit further down — we can also offer the following to those who do not currently live in Sweden:

  • Relocation support for you and your family.
  • Excellent conditions for settling in. We guide you through the official procedures necessary to settle in the country if you come from outside Sweden. We also provide temporary accommodation for a reasonable period and help you find a permanent place to live according to your personal needs.
  • LKAB helps you learn Swedish, a tool for a better understanding of Swedish culture.
  • The Swedish vacation law entitles all employees to five weeks of vacation per year, and four consecutive weeks during June, July, or August. Your contract may include extra vacation days.

Instead, we ask you to answer questions related to the specific position you are applying for.
