Hiring Range: $26.39 - $31.67 Per Hour

Range Explanation:

Creates and manages Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data in an enterprise environment, performing geospatial analysis and creating cartographic map products within the centralized Information Technology department (ITD).

Essential Functions:

  • Designs or prepares cartographic representations of GIS data using GIS applications, including web-based mapping systems;

  • Maintains or modifies existing GIS data;

  • Enters data into GIS databases, using techniques such as coordinate geometry, keyboard entry of tabular data, manual digitizing of maps, scanning or automatic conversion to features, or converting other sources of digital data;

  • Reviews existing or incoming data for currency, accuracy, usefulness, quality, or completeness of documentation;

  • Interprets aerial or ortho imagery for mapping purposes;

  • Revises existing maps and reports, making all necessary corrections and adjustments;

  • Compiles GIS data required for map preparation, including aerial imagery, survey notes, records, reports, and original maps;

  • Documents GIS procedures, metadata, and operating standards;

  • Provides technical support to users or customers regarding the maintenance, development, or operation of GIS databases, applications, and data collection devices;

  • Identifies and compiles GIS data to create maps in response to requests.

Minimum Qualifications:


Associate's degree from an accredited college, university or technical school in Geographic Information Systems, remote sensing, cartography, geography or related field as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.


OR:


Two years of technical experience in geographic information systems, which included data creation and analysis, the production of maps, reports and cartographic products.

(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)

  • Experience working in a mass appraisal environment.

Selection Procedure:
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.

Licenses and Certificates Some positions require a valid Arizona Class D driver license at the time of application or appointment. Failure to obtain/maintain the required licensure shall be grounds for termination. Some positions may require appropriate licenses or certifications at time of appointment or within a specified timeframe, e.g., Certified Business Analyst Professional (CBAP.) Special Notice Items The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. Frequently remains in a stationary position. Occasionally moves about inside an office. Occasionally moves office equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
